Some of the most captivating aspects of Luxembourg lie outside its urban core.

We commenced our final day in Luxembourg with a brief bus journey to a quaint town named Echternach.

Notably, our day in Echternach coincided with Whit Tuesday, during which the town hosts a lively dancing procession. Each year, participants from Echternach and neighboring regions converge to dance in this historic event, reportedly dating back to the 1300s. It is regarded as the last traditional dancing procession in Europe, which has resulted in its recognition on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The event is taken seriously in Luxembourg, with participants often receiving time off from work, although government employees are only granted a half day.

We progressed to the impressively large Abbey of Echternach. Interestingly, the procession both initiates and concludes at this remarkable structure.

On our route back to where our vehicle was parked, we explored the area surrounding the town of Echternach. One of the delightful advantages of not being familiar with the environment is the tendency to discover unexpected gems along less-traveled paths.

We felt immense satisfaction from our meal and enjoyed an extensive array of dishes, ranging from escargots in garlic sauce to duck, and it reinforced the notion that Luxembourg’s culinary offerings are as enticing as its cultural heritage.
