July is the first full month of summer. By the second week of July, public schools have let out, the Texas temperature is rising, and outdoor activities abound for visitors. Moreover, numerous festivals and events occur in July, many themed around the Fourth of July.

March—the first official month of spring—makes everyone anxious to get outside. However, if you live in northern latitudes, March weather can be fickle, forcing you indoors. Fortunately, temperatures in Texas—the Lone Star State—make it the perfect travel destination for those itching to get a little sun on their skin. Therefore, from outstanding festivals and events to rodeos and spring break on the Gulf Coast, March in Texas is filled with activities to enjoy.

Having been ruled by six countries, including its own sovereign government, it’s no surprise that Texas has developed a diverse and interesting history. Much of the history that shaped the Lone Star State took place in towns that are relatively small by modern standards. When non-Texans think of the state of Texas, the larger cities often come to mind: Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio. However, there’s more to the small-town Texas charm than the eye can see, making it an excellent destination for road trips, solo travel, or family outings.
