Chickasha’s Festival of Light: A Must-See Holiday Event

Situated just outside the Oklahoma City metro area, the Chickasha Festival of Light stands out as one of the best holiday lighting displays in the region. Since its inception as a small community event in 1992, this award-winning festival has transformed into a spectacular display, attracting around 300,000 visitors from across the United States each year. The 43-acre Shannon Springs Park becomes a breathtaking wonderland filled with holiday spirit, featuring hundreds of thousands of lights and captivating displays.

2017 Dates and Times:

For 2017, the Chickasha Festival of Light kicks off just before Thanksgiving on November 21 and continues through New Year’s Eve. The park welcomes visitors every evening, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and extends to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Location and Directions:

The festival is held in Chickasha, approximately a 45-minute drive south of Oklahoma City, at Shannon Springs Park. To get there, take I-44 West toward Lawton from Oklahoma City. Exit at 83 for US-62 toward Chickasha and continue for about 3.5 miles. Next, turn south on 29th Street, follow it to Grand Blvd, turn east on Grand, and finally, head south at 9th Street to the entrance of Shannon Springs Park.

For those walking through the display, parking is available at several nearby locations, including Homeland on Grand, a gift shop at 9th and Ferguson (south of Grand), and a park parking lot at 12th and Montana.

Admission:

Access to Chickasha’s Festival of Light is completely free, made possible by a long list of contributors that includes Chickasha Bank and Trust Co., the city of Chickasha, Arvest Bank, University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma, Braum’s, AT&T, Holiday Inn, and many more. Furthermore, the event is managed and supported by enthusiastic volunteers.

Chickasha’s Festival of Light Displays:

The festival features an impressive collection of over 100 holiday displays, totaling approximately 3.5 million lights. Highlights include:

  • 75,000 lights adorning the bridge
  • A beautifully decorated spring house
  • Four miles of illuminated walkways
  • A towering 25-foot tall angel
  • A stunning 16-story tree with an 80-foot diameter base, adorned with 25,000 lights
  • A top-notch computer-animated light show featuring over 150,000 lights, operated by 20 computers

In addition to the magnificent lighting displays, the Chickasha Festival offers a variety of experiences:

  • Food and Gifts: Explore a gift shop filled with homemade gifts or visit the concession stand for delicious treats like cinnamon rolls, nuts, and hot chocolate.
  • Photos With Santa: Meet Santa in the park on select occasions and capture professional photos, cards, or CDs.
  • Carriage Rides: Weather permitting, carriage rides accommodating up to twenty riders are available each night on a first-come, first-served basis for $6 per person.
  • Camel Rides: For a small fee, children can enjoy a unique ride atop a camel.
