We had ambitious plans for our lunch in Calgary, bolstered by recommendations we received from Instagram, local residents, and extensive prior research.
However, leaving for lunch later than planned necessitated a change in our itinerary as we hastily made our way to one of the nearby establishments—Charbar.
Fortunately, Charbar exceeded our expectations, offering exquisite cuisine prepared almost directly in front of diners.
Interestingly, we received another recommendation for Charbar on Instagram from a local once we left, confirming that our choice for lunch had indeed been a fortunate one.
Lloyd opted for a succulent burger, while I chose a steak adorned with Chimichurri sauce—both of which were exceptional! Our hunger dilemma was efficiently resolved!
After lunch, we proceeded to the Calgary Tower for the ultimate view of the cityscape.
In hindsight, this viewpoint is likely more enchanting at night when the city is aglow, although sunset also provides a splendid sight. Unfortunately, it was a rather overcast day, preventing the sun from setting in a picturesque manner.
Despite that, experiencing the city from this vantage point is undoubtedly worthwhile!
We even had the opportunity to walk on the glass floor, an experience that felt surreal and prompted me to instinctively grasp the railings as we traversed it.
Initially, we intended to remain until sunset; however, as mentioned earlier, that plan was not feasible. Consequently, we moved on to the adjacent Glenbow Museum, which piqued my interest due to its notably detailed exhibit on African culture and history.
The Glenbow Museum may appear modest from the exterior, yet it houses an expansive, labyrinthine arrangement of exhibits encompassing a variety of themes: geology, African history, Canadian art, an impressive collection of Japanese Samurai armor, along with a remarkable Christian Dior collection.
This museum encompasses a wide range of interests and facets of society, making it easy to lose oneself among its halls, captivated by its various treasures, regardless of one’s individual preferences.
The Dior collection is arguably among the most sought-after of the museum’s exhibits, offering a comprehensive perspective on the storied design house’s legacy and its iconic items.
Transitioning from lunch, we ventured to the Calgary Tower to appreciate the panoramic view of the city.
In hindsight, this viewpoint is likely more enchanting at night when the city is ablaze, although sunset offers a magnificent sight. It was unfortunate that the day was rather cloudy, hindering a beautiful sunset.
All things considered, experiencing the cityscape from this perspective is undoubtedly rewarding!
We shared a selection of offerings, including the Shanghai crab (for me) and Chicken yakitori for Lloyd.
Timed perfectly with our departure from Calgary, our culinary adventure will transition from the vibrant city to the breathtaking mountains and picturesque countryside—undeniably one of the compelling reasons to visit Alberta!
