Explore Bali’s Stunning Marigold Fields: Locations & Best Season to Visit

The Bali marigold fields in Temukus village might just be one of the most unique and unexpected landscapes on the island.

You won’t see any of the usual palm trees and green rice paddies here, but instead you’re surrounded by foggy mountains, Instagrammable orange marigold flowers, and even some rows of white edelweiss flowers.

After seeing pictures of these floating around the internet for months, we decided to go on a road trip and look for them!

Best Time To Visit

The marigolds are extensively used in Balinese religious ceremonies. Consequently, the optimal time to visit the fields is right before the harvest season, which aligns with these ceremonies.

We went in late July, coinciding with the significant Kuningan ceremony of 2019. However, it is essential to note that the dates for these ceremonies change each year; therefore, no fixed visiting season exists.

With that stated, Bali hosts numerous Hindu ceremonies throughout the year, giving you a fair chance of seeing marigolds at any time.

Your best bet is to plan a sightseeing trip to Besakih Temple or another location in East Bali, and stop by the marigold fields en route.

Entrance Fees

The locals generally request a 30k IDR (~$2) donation if you enter the fields to take pictures. This is private property, after all.

How To Get There

The marigold fields are situated in northeast Bali.

The most efficient way to get there is to rent a scooter or hire a private car and driver, both of which can be arranged online.

It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to drive from Ubud, Canggu, or Sanur, or approximately a 5-minute drive from the famous Besakih Temple.

Bali Private Driver & Motorbike Rental

If you desire to explore Bali in comfort and safety, consider using a private car with an English-speaking driver. My top recommendation is GetYourGuide.

Their rates start at 700k Rupiah (~$48 USD) for a full day of driving and sightseeing (up to 10 hours) for 1-5 passengers. This price includes the whole car, driver, and petrol—making it an excellent deal. Notably, they also provide affordable airport transfers.

If you prefer to travel by motorbike, they offer scooter rentals starting at 140k Rupiah (~$9), which includes a helmet, raincoat, and free delivery in the southern Bali area.

We’ve utilized GetYourGuide for various tours and activities around the globe; consequently, we highly recommend their services!
