Discover Atuh Beach: The Ultimate Relaxation Spot in Nusa Penida, Bali

Atuh Beach is one of the coolest beaches on the south end of Nusa Penida island. Unlike Suwehan Beach, this one is not a secret and there are sunbeds, beanbags, and a handful of nice food & drink shacks here.

If you’re trying to decide between Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach, I think the latter probably trumps this one as the most Instagrammable beach in south Penida, but they’re both amazing and you can easily visit both in the same day trip!

This travel guide will explain how to get to Atuh Beach Nusa Penida, and everything you need to know before you go!

Atuh Beach Nusa Penida: What To Expect

The highlight of Atuh Beach is the big elephant-shaped rock in the ocean (locals say it looks like a stiletto), and there’s a nice variety of sea life that gets trapped in the rocks at low tide.

Behind the beach sits a valley with a sea of palm trees and green hills that also makes for some great photo opportunities, especially if you have a drone.

Even though the beach is lined with small food and drink stalls, at the moment it’s still fairly natural and there isn’t any Atuh Beach accommodation (although I believe a hotel is in the works).

Overall, Atuh Beach is a really cool place to explore and relax for a couple of hours. Moreover, it’s conveniently located near other must-see attractions on the southeastern part of the island.

Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach

So which is better, in a matchup of Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach?

Personally, I think Diamond Beach is more spectacular and photogenic, with its giant pointy rocks and panoramic views. However, Atuh Beach also boasts nice, white sand with sunbeds, beanbags, and drink stalls, making it a more suitable beach for chilling.

Both of these beaches are fantastic, therefore, I would highly recommend visiting them both—probably Diamond first, and then relax at Atuh to wrap up the day.

The good news is these two beaches are located right near each other and share the same parking lot, so you won’t have to choose between Atuh Beach vs Diamond Beach regardless of your time constraints!

Entrance Fees

As of 2024, there’s an entrance fee of 20k Rupiah (~$1 USD), which provides access to both Atuh Beach and Diamond Beach.

How To Get To Atuh Beach Nusa Penida

Atuh Beach is located on the southeast side of Nusa Penida island, near Bali. If you drive from the main docks and accommodation in northern Penida, it’s accessible by car or scooter in about 1 hour.

That said, be cautious if you travel by scooter since the road is rough and may be hazardous in some areas if you don’t take it slow!

From the parking lot for Atuh Beach, it’s a short walk followed by a brief (but strenuous) hike down to the beach. Atuh Beach has parking areas on both sides of the beach, but I recommend using the one closest to Diamond Beach, allowing for an easy walk over to Atuh.
