It is evident that no road trip would feel complete without including this route in some capacity.

However, while traveling from Florida to California, incorporating this route into our schedule proved to be a challenge.

Despite this, we were committed to making it happen, and we were fortunate to receive recommendations for a well-known American establishment known as the Road Kill Cafe.

This cafe was conveniently located along our route, prompting us to make a slight detour to enjoy both the food and the scenic journey.

The Road Kill Cafe is situated in the quaint town of Seligman, Arizona, which is characterized by a sparse population.

This town embodies the quintessential American roadside destination one expects from classic road trip narratives; moreover, Seligman is quite attuned to its reputation amongst travelers, offering a welcoming ambiance for both wandering and sometimes lost tourists.

Upon our arrival, our immediate priority was to dine, where I savored a delightful pink lemonade served in mason jars—so exceptional that I was tempted to keep the jar along with some burgers.

Historically, the cafe’s original concept revolved around serving animals found on the roadside, epitomized by the motto “You kill it, we grill it.” However, this notion has evolved, and the cafe now provides its own selection of meats.

These dishes cleverly disguise themselves on the menu under humorous, roadkill-themed titles.

Post-meal, we ventured out to discover the town of Seligman, where I added several license plates to my collection. While some may collect magnets or t-shirts during their travels, I chose to gather a license plate from each state we visited.

This seemed particularly fitting as we traversed the United States, resulting in a rather intriguing piece of ‘art’ adorning the walls of my home in the UK.
