To commence the evening, we opted for dinner. After exploring the picturesque city of Maribor, the second-largest city in Slovenia, our appetites had truly developed. Thus, we chose to dine at the esteemed restaurant known as Rozmarin, recognized as one of the finest dining establishments in the area, complemented by an extensive wine cellar.
The meal was a succession of exquisite courses. While I would prefer to delve into further detail regarding the culinary delights enjoyed, my intention is to share more about the charming town of Ptuj.
All in all, the dinner at Rozmarin was superb, highly recommended for anyone visiting Maribor. If the opportunity arises, it is certainly worth the experience.
On the subsequent morning, which marked our final day in Slovenia, we ventured towards Ptuj in pursuit of local wines, as previously indicated in this article.
A brief exploration of the town revealed its overlooked beauty compared to the more renowned cities of Ljubljana and Maribor, showcasing itself as a colorful and enchanting treasure. The vocabulary may seem repetitive in this context, but “enchanting” aptly encapsulates the essence of Ptuj.
My appreciation for vibrant streets comes into play, making me fully enjoy the surroundings.
Next, we visited the Ptuj Wine Cellars, which are home to vintages potentially as old as one’s grandparents, with the oldest being from 1917.
We navigated through the wine cellars, absorbing the rich heritage of the location and the tale of how the wine was preserved during the tumultuous times of war when numerous vineyards and local businesses were raided.
My favorite segment of the visit involved the wine tasting experience. Although protocol advises to spit out wine while tasting, I found it challenging to adhere to this guideline. The playful consequence of this indulgence was a jovial me perambulating through Ptuj, engaging in whimsical acts of gaiety.
Subsequently, we set off to uncover more of Ptuj…
Eventually, we ascended to the castle, which provides the finest view of the entire town of Ptuj.
Following the wine tasting, and after acquiring a few bottles to share with friends, we embarked on one last exploration of Ptuj before our departure.
This is the beauty of such excursions; there is always unpredictability regarding what will be encountered. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to have experienced Ptuj, even if only for a brief time.
