Discover breathtaking waterfalls and remarkable landscapes in Iceland with this comprehensive guide by GoTravelDaily.
The greatest advantage of visiting Iceland is that all these remarkable natural attractions are entirely free to visit.
As long as you can reach them (via car, bus, or any means of transport), you can experience their beauty without any cost.
To begin our adventure, we commenced our day at Gullfoss.
This location is arguably the most celebrated waterfall in Iceland and is easily accessible on foot.
It requires some driving to reach here, but en route, you encounter numerous spectacular sights (such as Geysir).
Such opportunities indicate the importance of planning your visit and incorporating numerous minor stops into your itinerary.
You can hear this roaring waterfall from a distance before approaching!
As you approach, the immense power and grandeur of the waterfall become apparent!
Just observe its magnificence!
Upon visiting, I discovered I was somewhat unprepared for its scale, and thus I was genuinely astonished by our arrival.
Having minimal expectations often results in the most remarkable experiences while traveling, as exceeding those expectations leaves one in awe.
As expected, we had to approach as closely as possible to absorb the entire experience.
The cascading spray makes capturing decent photographs quite challenging without incessantly wiping your lens (or protecting it from the water spray)…
The second waterfall is Seljalandsfoss.
This waterfall is unique in that you can walk behind it! While it may appear modest from afar, getting closer reveals its grandeur.
As you move closer, the full extent of its size becomes evident!
The best experience occurs while walking around it!
This is an experience you’ll struggle to replicate elsewhere.
I was deeply moved by the experience, especially as we positioned ourselves right behind the waterfall, gazing at the cascading water.
Ensure you wear sturdy footwear while traversing this area.
The water and mud create potentially slippery conditions; however, with adequate caution, one can navigate safely.
My footwear lacked adequate traction, which led me to tread cautiously throughout my exploration.
Ensure to equip yourself with suitable shoes to fully appreciate your surroundings.
Additionally, it was fascinating to experience the unique environment resembling a cave, with waterfalls creating a curtain effect.
The third waterfall is Skogafoss, renowned for its impressive scale.
This waterfall is perhaps even more impressive than Gullfoss due to the opportunity to stand at its base and truly grasp its magnitude!
As all waterfall photographs are often enhanced with a playful figure in the foreground, here comes the enthusiastic jumper! 🙂
Approaching this incredible waterfall was simultaneously exhilarating and rather daunting.
The exhilaration from the water’s spray indicated that my proximity was increasing.
