Our guide from the previous day’s ice cave expedition had informed us that the mountainous regions surrounding Vik were excellent for spotting puffins, yet even the supposedly accessible peak would likely require hiking unless one possessed a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
I gazed upward at that mountain and concluded that including puffins in our itinerary seemed less appealing than negotiating the rugged terrain to observe the birds, despite their endearing nature.
However, we soon learned that hiking was far less daunting than anticipated.
In any case, we opted for a more accessible location close to Vik—Reynisfjara black sand beach, famous for its striking basalt columns known as Reynisdrangar.

This may sound improbable, but we often found ourselves distracted by another spectacular viewpoint, the Reynisfjara black sand beach perspective.

During our pursuit of the Dyrhólaey arch, much to our delight, we encountered hundreds of puffins along the way.
Our proximity to puffins was unprecedented, marking our most intimate encounter with these charming seabirds during our many travels.
Leaving the puffin observation area, I recalled the enduring adventure of seeking out the Dyrhólaey arch; thus, we committed to finding it through what seemed to be the only available route.

Continuing towards the Dyrhólaey arch, we were elated to finally witness it, particularly given that it had evaded us in previous ventures.
Along with the scenic drive and short walk leading up to the viewpoint, the Dyrhólaey arch reveals itself as a magnificent sight.
The remarkable Dyrhólaey arch, despite facing inclement weather conditions during our visit, retains its awe-inspiring presence.
Subsequently, we continued our journey to our next accommodation—the LandHotel, which would serve as a brief stopover before our anticipated stay at The Retreat at The Blue Lagoon.
