The South of France boasts some of the most picturesque towns, villages, and cities in the entire country. My anticipation was entirely warranted as we traveled to Montpellier for a weekend in the Occitanie region of France.
Our arrival occurred quite late in the night, thereby limiting our activities to simply checking into the hotel before retiring for the evening (it was nearly midnight at this point).
2. Morning Exploration
The following morning, however, we commenced our day with great enthusiasm as we ventured into the city.
3. Fabre Museum Visit
Our leisurely morning stroll led us to the Fabre Museum, where a collection featuring works by Picasso was on display, alongside creations from many other esteemed artists.

The Fabre Museum is deceptively expansive; while its height is visible from the exterior, its breadth is not readily apparent.
5. Dining Experience
After our museum visit, we felt a growing appetite, leading us to seek a pleasant lunch location. We eventually discovered Cafe Balthazar, situated away from Montpellier’s bustling streets, inviting us to pause for lunch.
We enjoyed an assortment of beverages to commence our meal, followed by delicious salmon as a starter. The main course consisted of steaks, concluding with delightful desserts – chocolate fondant for Lloyd and cheesecake for myself.
6. Conclusion
Our excursion to Montpellier not only encompassed art and culture but also resulted in remarkable culinary experiences. It was a perfect balance of education and pleasure, showcasing the beauty of the city.
With our appetite satisfied and spirits lifted, we were excited to explore the vibrant streets of Montpellier. The discovery of quaint shops and charming streets added to the enchantment of our visit.
