Explore Pullman Luang Prabang: A Travel Diary by @CFORCASSAN

As an individual often immersed in the rapid pace of life, I recently enjoyed a moment of respite last month during my exploration of Luang Prabang, the historical capital of Luang Prabang Province in northern Laos, situated in a valley at the convergence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers.

During my visit, I had the pleasure of staying at the enchanting Pullman Luang Prabang, a distinguished 5-star resort amidst scenic misty mountains, verdant paddy fields, tranquil ponds, and sparkling pools, providing a modern interpretation of traditional Lao terraced architecture.

Day 1:

Upon our arrival at the airport, we were warmly greeted by Fai, our host, who was part of Pullman Luang Prabang’s airport transfer service. The journey was exceedingly pleasant, complemented by macarons and beverages to refresh us after our flight.

As we approached the resort, we were met with a breathtaking view of the villa and its architectural surroundings. Every area within the resort was thoughtfully designed and inviting, particularly the front lobby, where we were welcomed with drinks served by local staff while awaiting our check-in.

We were accommodated in the Premium Deluxe Room, which significantly enhances the standard Deluxe room by offering an additional 25sqm of refined space. This extra area included a spacious work desk, a larger television, an Illy coffee machine, a Bose sound system, and an expansive bathroom. Furthermore, the room featured a sizable balcony that offered captivating views of the rice paddies and the mountains. We were also greeted with a complimentary fruit platter and pastries upon our arrival.

After settling into our room, we indulged in a delightful meal featuring traditional Lao cuisine at L’Atelier, the restaurant located within Pullman Luang Prabang, where guests are welcome for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This venue not only provides exquisite culinary experiences but also overlooks a serene pond, allowing patrons to feed the ducks with bread sourced from the restaurant, all while admiring the picturesque surroundings of the resort and the adjacent rice fields.

Most ingredients utilized in meal preparation were sourced from their own organic garden, ensuring that the vegetables were free from pesticides. They also featured fish from the Mekong River, enhancing the taste and nutritional value of the dishes. The emphasis on the farm-to-table philosophy was truly commendable.

After touring the resort in the afternoon, it was not long before evening began to set in. We were then invited to enjoy one of the MyResorts amenities provided by Pullman Luang Prabang, which included the MyGlass benefit, featuring a complimentary happy hour from 7-9pm for a nominal charge of USD 25, available for all Accor Live Limitless members.

Guests can select from a variety of beverages including juices, cocktails, and mocktails. After enjoying the drinks, it was delightful to relocate to the outdoor dining area to savor our drinks while watching the stunning sunset. The staff even organized a cozy campfire, and an upcoming movie night where guests could relax with a MyGlass beverage while enjoying entertainment.

Regardless of whether guests are at Pullman Luang Prabang with family or friends, there is an extensive selection available on the drinks menu. Additionally, guests may indulge in decadent cake selections available near the bar, a splendid way to conclude the day with a pre-dinner drink.

Day 2:

The subsequent day commenced early with our departure from the resort at 5am to participate in the morning alms ritual. Known as Sai Bat, this significant event occurs between 5-6am, where locals offer sticky rice or personal items to the passing monks. This silent and sacred ceremony is also a popular tourist attraction.

Witnessing this profound ritual was heartwarming, and I felt privileged to partake in such an age-old tradition that has fostered a symbolic relationship between the monks and local community for centuries, serving as a means for the latter to accrue merit.

Many tourists appreciate capturing this experience through photography, recognizing the importance of following certain guidelines to ensure the monks are respected, including avoiding flash photography, dressing appropriately, and maintaining a safe distance from the monks. Traditional Lao costumes are frequently worn during this ritual.

Following the alms ceremony, we ventured to the Luang Prabang morning market, where we observed locals diligently selling various items and groceries while engaging with fellow community members. This market also allows tourists to purchase souvenirs and local delicacies at more affordable prices compared to the night market.

After our excursion at the morning market, we returned to the hotel for a brief rest before proceeding to the Kuang Si Waterfall. The Pullman Luang Prabang offers complimentary transportation to tourist attractions, enhancing our experience.

We arrived at the waterfall after a 45-minute journey, greeted by a stunning vista upon reaching the top. During the warmer months, it is common to see locals enjoying picnics and swimming in the refreshing waters.

After spending a delightful afternoon at the waterfall, we returned to the resort to partake in another MyGlass benefit session. This time, I opted for a cocktail since we planned to unwind at the resort for the evening.

Observing the bartender expertly mix drinks at the bar was great entertainment, and the cocktails did not disappoint!

Day 3:

The next morning, I awoke at 8am to participate in the MyWellness Yoga session. Each morning, as part of the MyWellness Resort Benefit, guests have the option to select from a variety of morning exercises, including Yoga, Tai Chi, Muay Thai, among others, led by the in-house instructor at the wellness center, which offers breathtaking views of the resort.

I found the yoga session rejuvenating and beneficial for my body. Despite facing challenges with certain poses, the instructor provided inspiring support, making me feel comfortable and confident. Many stretches are easily replicable, which is advantageous for those attempting them for the first time.

Feeling invigorated from the yoga session, I opted for an additional workout to counteract the calories from the sticky rice. I visited the gym for a brief 30-minute HIIT session before breakfast.

With some time before the next MyWellness spa session, we opted to order breakfast in our room. Their breakfast service runs from 7am to 10am each morning, offering a wide selection of hearty American and traditional Laos dishes.

After finishing breakfast and in anticipation of our next MyWellness spa appointment, we decided to board the complimentary Pullman Luang Prabang shuttle bus into the city for further exploration. The resort provides daily shuttle services for guests, concluding at 9:30pm. For those wishing to extend their evening, affordable taxi options are also available.

Upon returning to the resort, we treated ourselves to another MyWellness benefit—a rejuvenating massage at the wellness center. This experience was, without a doubt, my favorite benefit of the MyResorts program!

Entering the Wellness Centre, a wave of tranquility enveloped me. Bathed in natural light and soothing melodies, I felt as if I had entered a realm defined by peace and relaxation, providing a perfect complement to the warm afternoon outside. We chose the deep tissue massage and were even welcomed with a refreshing drink prior to the session.

The masseuse requested that we complete a form detailing any discomforts or areas needing attention, along with our preferred pressure level for the massage.

After changing into bathrobes and storing our belongings, we were escorted to the massage room.

The deep tissue massage, known for its effectiveness in treating strains and sports injuries, was especially beneficial for my chronic neck and shoulder discomfort, often exacerbated by prolonged computer use. The therapist applied sustained pressure using slow, deep techniques to target the inner muscle layers, leaving me completely relaxed, even dozing off during the treatment!

As our final evening at Pullman Luang Prabang approached, we boarded the shuttle bus for one last traditional Lao dinner, concluding our experience at the night market, where we shopped for souvenirs.

Although our three-night stay at Pullman Luang Prabang was brief, it was sufficient to explore both the city and the resort’s impressive facilities. My only regret is not being able to stay longer. I am immensely grateful for the chance to experience the MyResorts benefits along with the beauty of this country. I am looking forward to returning to Pullman Luang Prabang on my next visit to Laos!
