Summary
New Year’s is a global celebration. It may involve observing stunning fireworks in London, experiencing a lively Hogmanay in Edinburgh, sharing a kiss under the vibrant lights of Times Square, or simply enjoying cherished moments with loved ones at home.
When it comes to New Year’s, I often find it challenging to discover options that are entertaining, exhilarating, and economically feasible.
In my searches for venues or distinctive gatherings, I frequently encounter expenses so exorbitant that I would hesitate to check my financial statement on January 1st!
Fortunately, during our recent visit to the charming city of Dublin, we caught a glimpse of the city’s preparations for New Year’s, which look absolutely remarkable!
Hello there, if you’re in search of a magical Irish experience, consider participating in one of the world’s most recent and exhilarating New Year’s Eve festivals.
What Is The New Year’s Festival In Dublin?
Spanning an impressive three days from December 30th through January 1st, the New Year’s Festival honors Ireland’s cultural heritage across the ages. The events spotlight the emergence of talent in music, dance, design, art, and spoken word, reflecting the essence of the nation’s character drawn from its diverse and beautiful island.
The festival will feature artists, dancers, locals, and hundreds of thousands of visitors, all partaking in one of Ireland’s most distinctive New Year’s celebrations.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN EVENTS?
1.) Three Countdown Concert
During the festivities on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the Three Countdown Concert presents globally recognized and local artists, including the Coronas, Fatboy Slim, Kila, Ryan Sheridan, and Little Hours. Early bird tickets are available for approximately €50 and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.
The concert will commence at 8:00 pm and conclude at 12:30 am, allowing just enough time to continue your celebration within the city.
2.) Procession of Light
Just prior to the Three Countdown Concert, Dublin City becomes vibrant with the procession of light, allowing participants to partake in what is considered one of the most enchanting processions worldwide.
A number of lanterns are available for public participation in this procession, with all contributions directed toward Focus Ireland, which works to combat homelessness in the country.
3.) Become A World Record Holder
At the conclusion of the Procession of Light, Dublin City provides everyone the chance to join in the world’s largest Bodhrán (Celtic Drum) session.
The city anticipates participation from over a thousand individuals in this record-setting attempt, thus it is advisable to express your interest in joining. You can express interest here.
4.) Street Fest
If you prefer a street festival atmosphere over a music event, be sure to attend Street Fest, where a large area of Dublin comes alive with hundreds of thousands of attendees celebrating New Year’s Eve.
This event requires tickets, which are priced around €7.50 per person, a reasonable cost in comparison! This year’s Street Fest is expected to feature some of the most prominent alternative, traditional, and contemporary Irish music.
5.) See A Light Show
Luminosity is a must-see experience at least once during the New Year’s Eve festivities. Operating from approximately 5:00 pm until midnight on December 31st, Luminosity presents a 3D light show that reveals the beauty of some of Dublin’s most iconic structures.
6.) Head For Some Culture at the Spoken Word Festival
Taking place over all three days of Dublin’s New Year Festival, the Spoken Word Festival features a diverse lineup of both emerging and well-established artists, ranging from poets to hip-hop artists, musicians, and comedians.
7.) Resolution Day
Much like many of us, we make numerous New Year’s resolutions; while most of mine go unfulfilled, this year there is hope for change! If, like myself, you seek support, consider engaging in one of Dublin’s resolution day activities.
How about participating in an exhilarating 5k run—dressing up in costumes if you’d like—or listening to a variety of TED-style talks designed to inspire you?
8.) Follow Dublin’s Music Trail
If music is your inclination, attend the Ruby Sessions at Smock Alley Theatre. As in previous years, the artists for the Ruby Sessions remain a closely guarded secret, yet speculation abounds within the city regarding a surprise guest, a renowned indie musician, leaving curiosity in the air!
Past surprise guests have included notable artists such as Ed Sheeran, Paulo Nutini, Mumford & Sons, and Damien Rice, promising an extraordinary experience to look forward to this year!
9.) Have a Guinness (or two)
Why not savor an authentic taste of Ireland during your stay in the city? The Guinness Storehouse and its gravity bar provide an excellent vantage point for 360-degree views of the city while enjoying one of Ireland’s most iconic beverages.
