Summary
The following day was dedicated to observing wildlife.
We commenced with a visit to the reindeer (arranged by the hotels – some activities require additional payment, yet hotels generally facilitate the arrangements).
Reindeer play a vital role in the lives of the Sami people here for many years, highlighting their significant cultural impact.
Despite the enjoyment of the reindeer sleigh ride, the morning’s highlight was undoubtedly the charming baby reindeer.
Their adorability and unique personalities were evident, with clear distinctions among them – the rambunctious one, the shy one, and the playful one.
It was amusing to realize how diverse their individual traits can be (possibly more noticeable to newcomers compared to their familiar companions).
Following our delightful time with the baby reindeer, we transitioned to a sleigh resembling Santa’s sleigh and enjoyed a brief ride.
Post-reindeer excursion, we took refuge in a Sami tent, indulging in teas and hot berry juices while engaging in pleasant conversations with a Sami family, followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Lunch took place at the Star Arctic Hotel, making it convenient for us as everything was managed through our accommodation.
The day progressed with delicious meals, including refreshing tomato soup that surprised me with its delightful taste, showcasing the value of freshness in culinary experiences.
Following a satisfying meal, we set out to locate the energetic huskies. Their lively nature was infectious, bringing joy to our day.
These canines have a rich history and are integral to the region, making the journey even more fulfilling. As the day unfolded, we found ourselves in a charming dog sleigh experience.
Returning from our adventure, we found joy in playful interactions with the dogs before settling down for the evening at the hotel, indulging in spa amenities.
Dinner showcased both local specialties and my newfound appreciation for Jerusalem artichokes, highlighting the culinary delights of this region.
The evening was crowned by an extraordinary display of the Northern Lights, a perfect conclusion to this enchanting journey.
The pure magic of the lights continued throughout the night, allowing a serene end to our captivating adventure in Finnish Lapland.
