Top 15 Attractions and Activities in Greenacres, Florida

Greenacres, aptly named, features over ten parks totaling more than 1,700 acres dedicated to public recreation.

Additionally, nearby Okeeheelee Park, situated on the western edge of the city, serves as a hub for various activities, including a golf course, equestrian center, and a thrilling cable wakeboard park.

Traveling east leads you to Lake Worth Beach, characterized by a vibrant, cosmopolitan downtown and miles of pristine sandy Atlantic beaches.

The surrounding area offers a myriad of entertainment options, including movie theaters, an adventure golf course, one of South Florida’s premier bowling centers, and the South Florida Fairgrounds.

Below is a comprehensive list of the top attractions in Greenacres.

1. Okeeheelee Park

Encompassing 1,700 acres, Okeeheelee Park stands as one of the largest public parks in South Florida, filled with an array of amenities and recreational options that continuously draw visitors back.Due to the park’s expansive size, it is divided into north and south sections on either side of Forest Hill Blvd.

Both sections offer numerous facilities, such as an equestrian center, tennis courts, a mile-long fitness trail, a golf course, a BMX track, a dog park, disc golf, and much more.

Water activities abound, and on weekends and holidays, visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and pedal boats by the hour. If I were to highlight a favorite area, it would be the serene woodlands, enriched with informational signs along the trails.

2. Downtown Lake Worth Beach

Greenacres lies in proximity to the most vibrant downtown in Palm Beach County. Lake Worth Beach, previously known just as “Lake Worth,” underwent a name change in 2019.

Along Lucerne Lake Avenues, the city center is captivating, featuring elegant pastel buildings, art galleries, live music venues, a museum, a historic theater, and numerous shops and restaurants.

Only a few decades ago, this area was considered less reputable and avoided on the way to the beach; however, it has since transformed into a must-visit locale.

My preferred time to visit is in late February during the Annual Street Painting Festival, where around 600 artists turn the city into an expansive open-air gallery, showcasing temporary masterpieces.

3. Lake Worth Beach Park

A notable activity to partake in while in Greenacres is rising early to witness the sunrise over the Atlantic.

This can be done at Lake Worth Beach Park, located just ten minutes east along Lake Worth Rd. Afterward, visitors can start the day at Benny’s on the Beach, a local breakfast favorite for nearly 40 years.

Positioned at the base of the 1,000-foot William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier, there is a nominal admission fee—only $1—allowing you to enjoy expansive views along the coast from the pier’s end.

The beach itself is exceptional, characterized by clean white sand, lively Atlantic surf, and a family-friendly atmosphere.

4. Shark Wake Park 561

Located in the northern section of Okeeheelee Park, this family-oriented water adventure park features two main attractions.

The first is a pair of state-of-the-art cable parks, accommodating activities ranging from wakeboarding to knee boarding, water skiing, wake skating, and foil boarding.

Both novices and experienced individuals will find this destination welcoming, with instructors ready to assist you in no time.

The other attraction at Shark Wake Park 561 is a large floating inflatable playground, replete with slides, climbing towers, monkey bars, and much more.

One might assume that Obstacle Island is exclusively for children and teenagers; however, I can attest that adults will also find great enjoyment here.

5. Adventure Mini Golf

This charming family-operated mini golf center features two 18-hole courses, both beautifully designed amidst palm trees and tropical shrubs.

There are fountains, rapids, and waterfalls throughout, with the entire attraction situated on a synthetic hill that adds to the challenge of several holes.

The two courses offer varying difficulty levels, ranging from straightforward to somewhat more intricate. Nonetheless, golfers aiming to practice their putting will not be disappointed, as the absence of extreme obstacles rewards skill with lower scores.

The courses boasted freshly installed turf during my visit, and there were specials available for playing all 36 holes.

6. Okeeheelee Golf Course

This public golf course, located on the eastern side of Okeeheelee Park, consists of three 9-hole courses that can be played in various combinations for a unique experience each time.

With five sets of tees available, players of all ages and skill levels will feel welcome at the Okeeheelee Golf Course. Unsurprisingly, given South Florida’s landscape, water hazards are prevalent, ensuring that wayward shots are duly punishing.

During my visit, I found the course to be exceptionally well-maintained and was pleasantly surprised by the abundant wildlife. Iguanas, alligators, and numerous wading birds contribute to the course’s ambiance, often likening it to a nature sanctuary.

7. Mounts Botanical Garden

This 14-acre tropical oasis nearby boasts over 6,000 varieties of tropical and subtropical plants.

Mounts Botanical Garden features flora from all six continents, encompassing herbs, tropical fruits, citrus, and palms, as well as native species to Florida.

Established in the mid-1950s, much of the garden’s landscape along the winding mile-long path is quite mature.

I found the native plant displays particularly intriguing, highlighting firebush, wild coffee, and bald cypresses in the Rain Garden.

The Butterfly Garden is equally enchanting, hosting up to a dozen species of butterflies at any given time, ranging from monarchs to zebra longwings.

8. John Prince Park

Situated between Greenacres and Lake Worth Beach lies a substantial park along the western shore of Lake Osborne.

Originating in the 1930s, John Prince Park is recognized as the second-oldest county park in Florida. It offers opportunities for biking, hiking, paddling, fishing, picnicking, and a variety of sports.

During my visit, a pleasant breeze flowed off the lake, and I encountered various wildlife, including iguanas and wading birds like ibises.

The park features extensive amenities, particularly for families, including a splash park, four playgrounds, a golf practice facility, and a paved bike path that stretches nearly five miles through pines and palms.

For extended visits, there is a 50-acre campground offering more than 350 sites for tents and RVs.

9. Don Victorio’s Market

Located on South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, Don Victorio’s Market is a family-operated business offering fresh juices and organic foods at competitive prices.

Many residents favor shopping at Don Victorio’s for items typically absent from larger chain stores. Additionally, the majority of the revenue generated at Don Victorio’s remains within the local community.

The market features locally grown and produced items, free of preservatives and additives.

I am particularly drawn to the juice bar, which presents a unique selection not commonly found in local produce markets. Among my favorites is the zesty Fully C, comprising orange, grapefruit, ginger, turmeric, and lemon.

10. Ragtops Automobile Museum

For an exploration of automotive history, visit this classic car dealership and museum located just a few minutes away in Lake Worth Beach.

As a functioning dealership, the collection of vehicles at Ragtops’s museum is continually updated. Typically, visitors will find cars from the 1930s to the 1980s, all in impeccable condition.

Among the standout automobiles during my visit were a 1956 Ford Thunderbird, a 1937 Chrysler Imperial, a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, and a 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk.

Vehicles are accompanied by advertisements, photographs, and a variety of memorabilia. Admission is complimentary; however, it is advisable to call ahead due to potentially irregular opening times.

11. Phoenix Theaters Lake Worth Cinema 8

When considering typical multiplex prices, this straightforward theater at Woodlake Plaza offers outstanding value.

During my visit, the Lake Worth 8 charged $5.99 for all shows, seats, and days of the week, showcasing first-run films as well.

This venue, operational since 1989, appeared somewhat aged from the outside during my visit; however, the interior was in excellent condition, with satisfactory seats, sound, and picture quality. Beer and wine options are also available.

During the summer break for schools, an engaging Free Summer Movie Series takes place, featuring G and PG films at 10:00 am, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

12. Greenacres Bowl

Patrons travel considerable distances for a few rounds at this local bowling alley, justifiably so, as Greenacres Bowl had recently been recognized as the “Best Bowling Center in Palm Beach County” during my visit.

The facility boasts 60 lanes, with around half designated for serious league play, while the other half accommodates friends and families seeking cosmic bowling.

Greenacres Bowl hosts leagues for all ages and skill levels, accompanied by various promotions worth exploring. For instance, I noticed that children were eligible for two complimentary games throughout the summer.

The facility features a newly launched arcade and billiards room, as well as the updated Gator Lounge bar, now equipped with 20 HDTVs.

13. Samuel J. Ferreri Community Park

A leisurely walk from Okeeheelee Park brings you to this smaller community park, situated beside a canal within a tranquil residential area.

Samuel J. Ferreri Community Park includes amenities such as a waterside jogging path, two playgrounds, exercise equipment, and courts for tennis and racquetball.

This park holds significance due to its public events, the highlight being Ignite the Night, Greenacres’ celebratory Fourth of July event, featuring fireworks, live music, and a multitude of family-friendly activities.

Another notable celebration is Fiesta de Pueblo, which honors Latin cultures, occurring on Epiphany (January 6) and featuring food, music, dance, parades, and carnival rides.

14. South Florida Fair

Greenacres is a short distance south of the South Florida Fairgrounds, which hosts an extensive fair held over more than two weeks each January.

The South Florida Fair, with a legacy dating back to 1912, attracts over half a million visitors annually.

The agriculture and livestock program is extensive, featuring over 1,000 exhibitors from more than 30 counties. Additionally, the midway is filled with games, thrilling rides, and food stands.

Several attractions remain open year-round. One of my favorites is Yesteryear Village, showcasing historic and replica buildings from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, accompanied by friendly costumed guides.

Another highlight is the 20,000-seat iThink Financial Amphitheatre, which hosts major touring musical artists. This venue has welcomed performers ranging from Lana Del Rey to Snoop Dogg, with the Dave Matthews Band performing here over 30 times.

15. Adrenaline Entertainment Center

A wonderful option for families with energy to expend, this indoor trampoline park is located just a few minutes west along Lake Worth Rd.

Adrenaline Entertainment spans 45,000 square feet and features a massive trampoline court filled with numerous trampolines.

Additionally, the facility offers a variety of attractions, including dodgeball, a foam pit, battle beam, climbing wall, and a challenging Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course.

A range of weekly deals and specials is available, and visitors are required to purchase specialized grip socks during their visit.
