After engaging in several activities during my visit (including skiing at Sunshine Village), I was determined to hike at Johnston Canyon in Alberta, which had long been on my wish list.
However, the Fairmont makes outdoor activities easily accessible, and after enjoying an exquisite breakfast, we were collected by our driver to embark on our hike at Johnston Canyon.
I approached the trek with some apprehension. Although I was eager to experience Johnston Canyon, I was uncertain about the exertion required for an uphill climb.
Fortunately, the hike is relatively straightforward, and the incline does not persist for long.
From the outset of hiking Johnston Canyon, one is surrounded by breathtaking views.
The scenery is truly magnificent.
Experiencing the Lower Falls is exceptionally beautiful from the bridge—observing how the water flows rapidly beneath a frozen surface is remarkable—but the most striking view is found on the opposite side of the bridge, after navigating a gap in the rocks.
This spot has limited capacity for visitors, but it provides the closest vantage point to the waterfalls during the Johnston Canyon hike.
As our group moved through the canyon, our guide periodically paused to provide context regarding various elements of the environment, encompassing the wildlife, geological features, and local culture.
The allure of the surroundings is undeniable.
