Exploring Stonehenge to Salisbury: A Scenic English Road Trip

A Long-Awaited Road Trip in England

As I previously mentioned, our English road trip had been anticipated for quite some time! Although we only had four days (three nights) available for this adventure, we endeavored to experience as much of Southern England as possible.

Weather Conditions

Our journey commenced with London bidding us farewell amid profound rainfall, perhaps the most intense I had witnessed in quite some time. The warning signs were evident, but the downpour certainly took us by surprise.

Fortunately, after just an hour of driving outside London, most of the rain had subsided, revealing bright sunshine as we approached our first destination: Stonehenge. This decision came within thirty minutes of departing London.

Visit to Stonehenge

Upon my initial visit to Stonehenge many years ago, I must admit I was somewhat underwhelmed. It seemed quite a trek merely to view some ancient stones. However, on this occasion, that sentiment was entirely reversed.

This transformation in perception truly exemplifies one of the many pleasures of travel: the capacity to appreciate the extraordinary heritage present in our surroundings.

Exploring Salisbury

After my initial visit, I delved deeper into the history surrounding such significant ancient sites. The remarkable effort required to construct Stonehenge—especially without today’s advanced tools and technologies—is genuinely astonishing.

National Trust Membership

Should your travels in the UK extend over a lengthy period, it may be advantageous to consider acquiring National Trust Membership, which grants access to hundreds of attractions across the UK. The fee is quite reasonable, especially considering the cumulative costs for individual entries at various locations. I opted not to obtain one this time, as we lacked sufficient time to enroll before Stonehenge’s closure, but I am increasingly recognizing the value of such a membership.
