We thoroughly enjoyed our time in northern Italy. Therefore, to maximize your experience while visiting Turin, I am sharing our recommended destinations to explore upon your arrival. This way, you can prioritize all the remarkable attractions and the exquisite chocolate for which Turin is well-known.

1.) Quadrilatero Romano
The Quadrilatero is one of my favorite districts in Turin and is absolutely delightful for a stroll in the late afternoon.
Historically, the Quadrilatero was inhabited by Romans and continues to flourish today. One of the finest ways to explore Quadrilatero is on foot. However, caution is advised as the sidewalks and roads may be uneven in certain areas.
As you meander through, be sure to visit Mastio della Cittadella, the old citadel complex, which is fascinating to stroll through. Additionally, explore the Museum of Oriental Art, a great option if the weather turns inclement. You can also check out the Piazza Statuto, designed by Giuseppe Bollati.
For those intrigued by Turin’s extensive history, consider participating in the underground tunnel tour while in the city.
The tour occurs beneath the Citadel and lasts approximately three hours, allowing you to traverse tunnels that date back to the 18th century along with the iconic royal icerooms.
2.) Mole Antonelliana
Arguably one of Turin’s most iconic structures, the Mole Antonelliana is awe-inspiring to behold.
Indeed, the Mole Antonelliana can be seen from various locations around Turin; after all, when it was constructed in the 1800s, it held the title of the tallest brick building across Europe.
Historically, this site was home to a Jewish synagogue before its transition to the National Museum of Cinema. Today, visitors can participate in a guided tour of the museum and ascend to the top viewing platform of Mole Antonelliana.
From this vantage point, one can enjoy panoramic views extending for miles, including glimpses of the Italian Alps in the background. It is among the must-see attractions in Turin and is not to be overlooked.
3.) Turin’s Museums
One of the aspects I appreciate most about Turin is its exceptional museums. The city is a rich repository of history, and there exists an abundance of museums and exhibits awaiting exploration.
Upon your arrival, ensure you visit the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento. This museum is renowned as the most prestigious Risorgimento Museum in the entirety of Italy, showcasing a pivotal period that contributed to Italy’s unification.
Alternatively, visit the Turin Egyptian Museum (Museo Egizio), which was established in the early 1800s. Located in Piazza San Carlo and Piazza Castello, it is dedicated to Egyptian archaeology and the ancient Egyptian civilization.
Moreover, do not overlook the National Car Museum of Turin (MAUTO). Located in the southern part of the city, this museum is one of the prime attractions for car enthusiasts. A visit here is highly recommended for a few hours for anyone with an interest in Italian automobiles.
For added convenience, consider acquiring the Turin City Card, which offers complimentary entry into all museums, royal residences, and historical castles among numerous other perks. This approach simplifies the Turin experience (and is more economical than purchasing tickets separately).
4.) Royal Palace of Turin (Palazzo Reale)
Of course, no visit to Turin would be complete without entering one of its magnificent palaces. The Royal Palace of Turin is an exquisite estate constructed in the 16th century, showcasing incredible architectural splendor.
This building holds a wealth of history, whose interiors are noteworthy; do not miss the King’s Throne. We found it immensely impressive.
This palace possesses everything one would expect from a royal estate. Allocate at least 90 minutes to leisurely explore its splendor.
5.) Rivoli
Located just outside the city’s edge, a trip to Rivoli is among the best experiences to undertake after exploring the city center. There has been a settlement here for almost 2,000 years; although small, it possesses remarkable charm.
While in Rivoli, ensure you visit the Modern Art Museum, which is impressive both inside and outside. This gem was once the Royal House of Savoy in Rivoli. Inside, you can explore contemporary art exhibitions while enjoying the picturesque views from its elevated position.
Moreover, do not miss a visit to Gelateria La Romana for their exquisite pistachio gelato. Honestly, I returned twice to savour it.
6.) Basilica of Superga
Basilica of Superga is a remarkably grand Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Moreover, it serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Turin.
This vast cathedral features stunning architectural design, and its interior is exceptionally tranquil. It also serves as the burial site of the Shroud of Turin, enhancing its historical and cultural significance.
You even have the option to climb the dome if you wish. It offers impressive views for a nominal fee of approximately 3 euros. Not only that, but the tram journey to the summit of the hill is genuinely delightful.
7.) Turin’s Markets
Not too far from Piazza Castello, the Porta Palazzo Market is among the largest in Turin. Many outdoor stalls proffer fresh produce, while a variety of specialties can be discovered indoors, including local pasta and freshly-baked focaccia.
For antique or flea market enthusiasts, head over to the Balon Flea Market. Similar to the Cortile del Maglio area of Turin, Balon is renowned for its eclectic industrial designs. This flea market ranks among the largest in Turin, featuring over 250 stalls where one can uncover a treasure trove of finds.
Nevertheless, note that the latter market operates only until 6 pm on the second Sunday of each month.
8.) Palazzo Madama
Palazzo Madama is yet another palace in Turin that is simply unmissable. This palace also served as the very first seat of the Council of the Kingdom of Italy.
Be sure to explore the palace and its museum. It typically takes about 40 minutes and is well worth your time. Keep an eye out for the Triumph of Virtue of Madama Reale, created by the celebrated artist Domenico Guidobono.
Furthermore, for stunning views, venture to the top of the tower, which provides an excellent vantage point over Turin.
9.) Parco del Valentino
Take a leisurely stroll through Parco del Valentino alongside the River Po for a few hours. This park encompasses a medieval castle and charming little shops worth visiting.
Be prepared for a longer walk as the garden is expansive, so wearing comfortable shoes is advisable. Additionally, be sure to visit Borgo Medioevale, a few centuries old (folly) that is a delightful sight to behold.
Moreover, Castello del Valentino, which is also impressive, is certainly worth exploring.
10.) Sacra of San Michele
Approximately a 50-minute drive from central Turin, Sacra of San Michele is an iconic landmark to visit when exploring the broader Piedmont region of Italy.
This abbey is stunning and prominently overlooks the picturesque Piedmont countryside close to Turin.
For ease of travel, consider joining the half-day tour organized from Turin, which includes transport to Sacra of San Michele along with a qualified guide. Just be prepared for the ascent of 250 steps.
11.) Stupinigi Royal Palace
Located on the southern outskirts of the city, the Stupinigi Royal Palace may indeed be one of the most impressive in all of Italy, albeit subjective.
Constructed during the 1700s, this expansive palace and its gardens are available for public exploration at a nominal fee, typically around 12 euros. Once inside, you can admire the ornate rooms, frescoes, and learn more about Napoleon’s stay within the Royal palace.
Allocate around two hours for a thorough exploration.
12.) Gallery Subalpina
Situated in the city center, the Gallery Subalpina is an extraordinary highlight while you navigate the urban landscape.
This stunning shopping gallery is visually striking. Be sure to stop by Baratti and Milano for a cappuccino. This establishment is nearly 200 years old, boasting a beautiful interior and serving excellent coffee.
