Explore the Beauty of Pokhara, Nepal: An Unforgettable Afternoon

An Afternoon In Pokhara, Nepal (47)

It is widely recognized that one of the most unparalleled views in Nepal is from Tansen, where we were accommodated by a local family.

The uniqueness of this view stems from the unobstructed view of the Himalayan mountain range directly in front of you… and if you come here for sunrise, the view becomes even more remarkable.

To fully appreciate this view, however, clear weather is essential.

We rose at 5 AM in Tansen, prepared to witness this stunning view; regretfully, we were met with heavy rain, which obscured the view entirely beneath a layer of clouds.

With this in mind, I contacted our guide who confirmed that the view would be obscured (and braving the rain was likely unwise), prompting me to return to sleep for a few more hours, before eventually heading upstairs for breakfast (which I highlighted in the prior post) and continuing our travels.

As we resumed our journey, it became evident why attempting to view the Himalayas that morning would have been impractical. The sky was dark and overcast, lending a dramatic quality to the surrounding mountains, yet limiting visibility considerably compared to a sunny day.

As our approach to Pokhara continued, the sun began to emerge, and by the time we halted for lunch, the clouds had dissipated and blue skies greeted us once more.

We selected a surprisingly spacious location for our lunch stop, which we decided to investigate while the others were dining.

The drive from that point to Pokhara was swift, and before long, we were greeted by the sight of Pokhara sprawling across the valley below.

Fewa Lake is one of the most prominent attractions in Pokhara, serving as a central gathering point for activities. It is also one of the initial sights as you arrive in this area, adorned with brightly colored boats, poised to take you on further explorations of this enchanting region of Nepal.

Pokhara presents itself as a city that feels both vibrant and relaxed, considerably more tranquil than Kathmandu. It also exhibits a Western ambiance and is known to be frequented by many individuals seeking adventure amid the majestic mountains. Though it may not be the capital city, it undeniably serves as the tourism capital, evident in its status as the most expensive city in Nepal.

Additionally, Pokhara serves as a gateway to the Himalayas, providing access to the Annapurna mountain ranges, which include three of the tallest mountains in the world.

This, naturally, makes Pokhara an ideal base for those interested in embarking on a thorough hiking expedition in Nepal (though for Everest, other locations must be considered).

We checked into the Dahlia Boutique Hotel, which was ideally situated within walking distance of the lake and the main thoroughfare.

After a leisurely lunch, we ventured into the city, casually strolling through its streets before proceeding to the lake just as the sun was about to set.

The silhouettes formed by the Himalayan mountains are a sight to behold and capture, especially when the peak of one of the Annapurna Mountains rises above the clouds, providing a glimpse into the grandeur of the Himalayas.

Pokhara certainly holds the promise of being an enjoyable place to unwind, which is something we had not experienced since our arrival, and I was greatly looking forward to resting on the following day!
