Upon arrival in Vancouver, as soon as we had checked into our accommodation, the first sight that caught my attention was a magnificent mountain in the distance, visible right from the balcony.
Curious about the mountain, but too famished to investigate immediately, we opted for a meal and some exploration of Vancouver. By the time we returned to our hotel, night had fallen, and the mountain was illuminated, enhancing its allure. Unable to restrain my curiosity any longer, I inquired at reception about the mountain – thus began my introduction to Grouse Mountain! 🙂
Grouse Mountain rises over 1,200 meters / 2,000 feet and impresses visitors with its sheer size at both its base and summit. The location serves multiple purposes; it functions as a ski resort, bear sighting venue, performance space, ziplining site, and more! Its adaptability makes it a destination that caters to a wide audience. 🙂 Interesting Fact: The initial lodge on Grouse Mountain was constructed by Scandinavians in the 1920s! (Source: Wikipedia)
The weather in Vancouver was pleasantly sunny and warm, while the mountain was dusted with snow – a clear indicator of its height long before I discovered the precise measurements. I am comfortable with heights; however, Yaya exhibits a slight fear of heights, resulting in some apprehension during the cable car ascent.
HOW TO GET THERE:
Take a taxi from Vancouver (or drive if you possess a vehicle) – this option is financially advantageous if traveling with additional companions. Alternatively, consider using tour buses available to the mountain. The taxi fare ranges between $25 to $30 (Canadian Dollars).
TIPS:
1.) Should you be inclined to ski, I highly recommend experiencing Grouse Mountain.
2.) Always bring warm clothing, regardless of the weather conditions in downtown Vancouver. It can be quite frigid at the summit!
3.) Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a ride on the snowmobile sleigh – it is an exhilarating experience!
4.) For those who may be somewhat apprehensive about heights, similar to Yaya, it might be advisable to close your eyes during the initial stage of the cable car journey. Although it is indeed elevated, the stunning vistas of Vancouver are worth viewing, and even Yaya managed to keep his eyes open throughout! 🙂
