Discover the Magic of Winter in London

Best London Christmas Markets (12)

It is nearly that time of year again in London. The air begins to grow crisper, layers of clothing increase, and daylight hours diminish… Yes, winter is approaching!

Surprisingly, it is still unseasonably warm and dry in London!

It appears that London has yet to acknowledge the end of summer, and I prefer it that way… I enjoy the warmth! And please refrain from informing London about autumn; I wish for summertime to linger for as long as possible.

Some tourists tend to avoid winter in London. Although, to put things in perspective, the city is never truly devoid of visitors.

Nonetheless, there are generally fewer people during winter compared to summer, which I consider a significant oversight. I do not particularly favor spring (which seems to make an excessive effort to match summer’s charm), nor autumn (which also strives too hard to resemble winter). Whenever I am asked for a recommendation, I consistently suggest visiting London either in summer or once winter has fully arrived.

Indeed, the United Kingdom often receives unfavorable reviews regarding its weather; however, while summer is enjoyable due to the plethora of outdoor activities available, London possesses an undeniable beauty in winter, and here is some proof! (I stumbled upon these photos while browsing through my photo archives…)

One of the joys of residing in Central London is the proximity to remarkable sights, merely a two-minute walk from your residence.

Regardless of the season, The Tower of London and Tower Bridge consistently showcase extraordinary examples of London’s architectural heritage.

For those intrigued by history, the Tower of London also hosts the world’s largest diamonds and The Crown Jewels, so do consider visiting! This served as our initial destination during our evening stroll…

We gradually made our way in a somewhat roundabout route to Borough Market…

At Borough Market, I explored nearly every stall that offered complimentary samples, eagerly tasting the various cheeses, breads, and sweets available. Ultimately, I was enticed into purchasing several cakes, some sweet nuts, cheese, and an assortment of fruits and vegetables. It was an eclectic selection of items, certainly not a cohesive meal plan but rather a reflection of my usual Borough Market experience. To be candid, I often visit solely for the cakes (a known passion of mine), and I get caught up in tasting, resulting in purchases I indeed desire but do not actually need.

To conclude this brief outing, I indulged in one of my winter favorites – mulled wine! The delightful aspect of feeling cold in London during winter is the opportunity to warm up at home by the fireplace, perhaps while enjoying a cup of tea or, indeed, some scrumptious mulled wine.

Well fed and enjoying mulled wine, we finally decided to conclude our day and seek out an actual dinner!
