Previously, during our last visit, we departed with the conviction that South Africa was a destination worth revisiting.
Just a few months later, we find ourselves back in South Africa. However, instead of embarking on a safari or heading to the renowned and thrilling Cape Town, we have opted for a somewhat unconventional path that diverges from typical tourist routes. We have chosen to explore Port Elizabeth and the stunning Garden Route, particularly the Tsitsikamma National Park. (It is pertinent to note that these two locations offer a stark contrast to the safari experience or the vibrant atmosphere of Cape Town).
The exciting aspect of our journey this time is that we have embarked on a challenge: to see how far £400 can take us within a week! (A challenge we are eager to accept!) Our previous visit had us meticulously planning every aspect of our safari (which included predefined meal arrangements and game drives). In Cape Town, however, we allowed for a looser itinerary, providing us an advantage as we re-enter this financial challenge. We are aware that £400 can stretch remarkably far here— for example, a glass of sparkling wine costs between £1 and £2, while a three-course meal can be as affordable as £10, with some tours offered at merely £4!) 🙂
This journey represents a shift away from our previous planning strategies; other than securing accommodation, virtually no arrangements have been made beforehand. We are fully embracing spontaneity throughout this trip, and I must admit—it has been incredibly exhilarating and liberating to navigate our experiences as they unfold.
We will endeavor to provide updates as frequently as possible, although the inherent nature of ‘winging it’ often results in inconsistent internet access. When connectivity allows, detailed accounts of our adventures will primarily be shared on Snapchat (our username is HandLuggageOnly).
Here are some moments captured during our stay thus far! 🙂
*Our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will also be regularly updated (look out for our #RollingInRands hashtag). We find Snapchat to be particularly advantageous for capturing real-time experiences with less deliberation, and we, therefore, exhibit a slight inclination towards it.
