Your Weekend Travel Plan to Jasper, Canada During Winter
Jasper is a primary destination to discover Canada during winter. This already breathtaking national park, which hosts the Canadian Rockies, undergoes a remarkable transformation into a near-fairytale winter haven.
The lakes become solid, waterfalls morph into stunning ice sculptures, and mountain roads additionally serve as ski slopes. Few locations around the globe experience winter like Canada, and the national parks here, particularly Jasper, represent some of the premier destinations for embracing this season.
It goes without saying that upon our visit to Edmonton (where you can examine the comprehensive itinerary and travel outline), including Jasper was imperative!
Consequently, we made our way to absorb as much of Jasper’s allure as possible in just a few days! (I would have gladly extended my stay here).
DAY 1
Late Morning/Early Afternoon: Check into The Crimson, Jasper – your accommodation during your stay. This is an exceptional location in Jasper (conveniently close to many attractions) and includes amenities such as an indoor pool and hot tub, ideal for relaxation after a busy day outdoors.
The itinerary outlined below does not precisely reflect the travel plan we followed. It represents the initial framework we intended, but we unfortunately omitted visiting Maligne Canyon on the first day and adjusted our schedule accordingly.
This alteration allowed us to experience the Icefields Parkway and explore certain parts of Jasper National Park (particularly around Pyramid Lake and Pyramid Mountain) that were not originally included in our travel itinerary. Thus, the outcome was exceptionally favorable in the end.
DAY 2
Early Morning: Breakfast at the hotel.
9:00AM: Engage in skiing at Marmot Basin. Marmot Basin, a ski area located merely 20 minutes from Jasper, is a superb destination for skiing!
By the time of our visit, I had already skied numerous times in Europe, allowing for a solid basis for comparison. My experience at Marmot Basin was exceptional and distinct from previous ski experiences (in a positive way), with unparalleled views of the Canadian Rockies.
6:00PM: Dine at Jasper Brewing Co. Try to engage in a beer tour and tasting before dinner. I finally experienced Poutine here (although I had sampled it previously, just not in Canada).
DAY 3
Early Morning: Breakfast at the hotel.
9:00AM: Participate in a ‘Safari’ and Snowshoeing over a frozen lake with Paula from Walks and Talks Jasper. This venture is organized by Paula, who started her business after her tenure as a Park Ranger, and her expertise encompasses nearly all aspects of Jasper National Park.
DAY 3
1:00PM: Go Dog Sledding with Cold Fire Creek. This is an incredibly enjoyable activity and absolutely recommended during your stay in Jasper.
2:00 PM: Depart for Edmonton, promising yourself to return to Jasper in summer when the park presents a completely different set of attractions and activities!
