Discover Sarlat and Beaumont-du-Périgord: A French Travel Guide

The subsequent morning in Sarlat, we encountered an ample amount of free time.

We were scheduled to meet a chef later that day to sample authentic regional cuisine, but for the time being, we aimed to explore Sarlat under the resplendent sunshine!

Being in Sarlat on a Saturday morning, the bustling street market was vibrant and inviting by the time we ventured out. Street markets are synonymous with complimentary food sampling, so I was thoroughly enjoying myself!

It was such an enjoyable morning! We navigated between food stalls, lost ourselves in charming side streets, and paused frequently to bask in the delightful French sunlight.

A visit to the Sainte-Marie church is essential. The church features a glass lift that transports visitors to one of the most stunning panoramas within the city.

With nearly a complete 360-degree view of the surroundings, it provides an incredible vantage point.

Ultimately, we proceeded to the heart of the market to meet the chef who had graciously invited us to experience his culinary offerings in his home.

First and foremost, we began our search for ingredients essential for our upcoming lunch…

After gathering our selections, we complied back at the chef’s residence, where we immersed ourselves in the cooking process.

With everyone assembled at the balcony, the lunch was served, which was a culinary delight! We enjoyed duck with creamy herbed potatoes, asparagus, French cheeses, and strawberries in a creamy wine sauce (a delightful first-time dessert experience).

A shortage of photos documenting our meal was apparent. Perhaps the wine played a role in that.

Eventually, it was time to bid adieu to Sarlat! My only consolation was the anticipation of discovering many more astonishing sights within the Dordogne Valley.

Ultimately, Becker-sur-Perigord is a quintessential representation of French charm. I found myself enamored by its picturesque sights that felt like a dream.
