During our exploration of Menorca, I recall hearing about an intriguing underground club hidden within the caves. Initially, this notion appeared fantastical to me, reminiscent of a tale from “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves,” leading me to dismiss it as mere folklore.
However, this was not merely a fabrication. Before diving deeper, have you ever encountered a Taula?
Until recently, I had not encountered a Taula until this day in Menorca. After sailing around the island, which offered a notably distinct experience compared to the initial kayaking venture, we set off to explore a Taula.
A Taula is fundamentally a monument, somewhat akin to Stonehenge in England, consisting of several assemblages of stone dating back over 3,000 years. It is widely believed that these structures represented religious settings established by the early inhabitants of the island; however, substantial mysteries surrounding the Taulas remain unresolved—except for the magnificence they embody!
These fascinating structures are found exclusively on Menorca and represent an essential aspect of the island’s history that should not be overlooked!
As our exploration of the Taula concluded, we realized it was almost time to return to the airport for our flight back to the UK; however, the allure of the rumored cave bar, renowned for its impressive vistas and sunsets, proved irresistible. Thus, we opted for a brief visit before departing.
It is worth mentioning that our stop at the cave bar, known as Cova d’en Xoroi, is well-respected among locals and a select group of informed travelers. As you navigate through the establishment, the striking vistas will undoubtedly captivate you (entrance incurs a fee, but it includes a beverage of your choice, making the cost effectively equivalent).
Upon descending several steps and navigating through internal cave paths, akin to windows, we arrived at the bar area offering breathtaking vistas, a promise of remarkable sunsets, and a commendable drink selection.
I opted for a caipirinha (a drink I was particularly fond of at the time) and endeavored to absorb as much of the mesmerizing view as possible before we were compelled to depart for the airport.
This visit to Menorca indeed transformed into an enlightening experience, revealing unexpected treasures I was previously unaware existed. Consequently, I find myself yearning to return next summer—this time accompanied by friends and for a longer duration!
