By Train: We opted for the train from London, passing through Brussels. This journey took approximately six hours, featuring a delightful two-hour layover in Brussels, where a quick waffle and a visit to the Grand Place are highly recommended before continuing on the ICE train to Cologne.
Moreover, train travel is available from most cities across Europe.
By Plane: Cologne boasts its own airport, conveniently located a brief train or taxi ride from the city center, serving as a hub for Euro Wings, which provides ample flight options.
River Cruise/Boat: Given Cologne’s positioning along the Rhine River, there are options to arrive via river cruise or regional vessels.

With over 500 steps, this can be a challenging climb but it is undoubtedly rewarding to reach the summit of one of Cologne’s most emblematic UNESCO World Heritage sites.
It is important to note that the ascent to the viewpoint can be strenuous. The numerous stairs combined with crowds may make pacing difficult, as one might feel inclined to avoid bottlenecking the line.
To mitigate this, consider climbing the tower early in the day to avoid peak hours. Remember to carry water and wear appropriate footwear to fully appreciate the stunning vistas of the city.
2.) Revel in the Atmosphere of the Belgian District
The Belgian District is one of the most exuberant areas in Cologne, an ideal neighborhood for enjoying early evening drinks, meals, and gatherings with friends.
Full of stylish bars and exceptional eateries, it provides the perfect backdrop for an evening in the city.
It is advisable to consult restaurant availability ahead of time, especially during weekends. During our visit, several establishments in the Belgian District were bustling on Saturday nights due to their growing popularity.
