Summary
I find myself writing from my hotel room in St Kitts (not sure how pertinent that is but it felt necessary to mention).
My fascination with St. Kitts began on a different Caribbean island. During a lunch conversation with a stranger who soon became a friend, I discovered that St. Kitts is officially named St. Christopher (which validated my curiosity since I had not heard of St. Christopher Island before that).
It is interesting to note that Kit Harington, known for his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, is actually a shortened form of Christopher (see here), hence St. Christopher became St. Kitts!
At that time, I did not possess extensive knowledge about St. Kitts and how it differentiated itself from other islands, yet it continued to intrigue me as it was one of the few Caribbean islands I recognized. Over the years, I have encountered numerous individuals who had visited and cherished their experiences (as it was somewhat off the beaten path in comparison to other Caribbean locations).
A year (or nearly two) later, we were invited to learn more about St. Kitts and potentially serve as ambassadors for the island. It was an effortless decision!
This ease resulted not only from the island’s relatively small size or the strong connections cultivated by my acquaintances back home but also from its remarkable diversity. When one thinks of the Caribbean, views of beaches and sunshine often come to mind, yet St. Kitts offers a plethora of experiences beyond that!
This island allows visitors to approach the crater of a dormant volcano, where a lake occupies the center. It is a sanctuary for turtles that come ashore to hatch. Moreover, one can discover the rainforest without concerns regarding snakes, lions, hyenas, crocodiles, or any of the myriad fears that forests might invoke!
As illustrated on Instagram and to a lesser extent on Facebook (I ought to upload more images on Facebook), we have dedicated the last week to exploring St. Kitts, and have truly fallen for its charm! We are genuinely thrilled to have accepted the invitation to become ambassadors for this island and eagerly anticipate sharing comprehensive blog posts as well as numerous additional photos highlighting this adorably picturesque island!
(As a brief side note – I finally discovered why rum holds such appeal in the Caribbean; it relates to the by-products from sugar plantations).
