Summary
Although I would prefer to claim responsibility for identifying this place as one of the most dramatic cities in Europe, various credible sources had made this assessment long before my visit, which only served to reinforce that assertion.
Orvieto is truly exceptional!
This remarkable city, constructed on nearly vertical cliffs, features one of the most intricate facades of any cathedral throughout Italy.
Moreover, the city carries a profound historical legacy, being nearly 3,000 years old, making it one of the richest historical sites one could ever hope to explore.
As the sun commenced its descent over Italy, we traversed in our rickshaw toward this astonishing city nestled in the mountains. I admit, I was unsure about what to anticipate. It looked impressive from a distance, and that alone warranted the visit.
Without a doubt, my anticipation was fulfilled.
I may have captured significantly more images than I had initially anticipated.
My solitary complaint regarding Orvieto (which may not be entirely justified) would be the unavoidable presence of scaffolding, an unfortunate necessity for many historic sites. Although they are essential for restoration purposes, my limited proficiency with photo editing rendered them an unwelcome element in what could otherwise have showcased the intricate facade of the cathedral in Orvieto.
Ultimately, I found myself photographing significantly more scenes than I had originally intended.
*Do you see the scaffolding now? It appears no one thought to inform them of my visit in advance! Chuckle!
Regardless of the scaffolding situation, I devoted an unreasonable amount of time admiring the cathedral before I proceeded to delve deeper into the city’s offerings.
