Discover Water Wizz: Cape Cod’s Largest Water Park Adventure

There is no shortage of water-based activities on Cape Cod. With some of the finest beaches in the world, this popular Massachusetts destination attracts visitors for swimming, fishing, boating, and romantic strolls along the seaside dunes, among other aquatic pursuits. Those in search of some excitement alongside the aquatic enjoyment can frequently discover suitable waves for bodyboarding and boogie-boarding at the ocean-facing National Seashore beaches.

However, if you desire exhilarating slides, a wave pool, a lazy river, and other adventures for your Cape escape (or if shark sightings have deterred you from entering the ocean), there is truly only one venue to satisfy your water park cravings: Water Wizz. (The Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis features a small indoor water park available to both registered guests and day guests, subject to availability. There is also a modest outdoor park in West Yarmouth, Cape Cod Inflatable Park, which, as implied in its name, relies on temporary inflatable water slides.)

Formally recognized as Water Wizz of Cape Cod (the same entity also manages a smaller water park in Rhode Island, Water Wizz at Misquamicut Beach), the park is situated a few miles beyond the Cape Cod Canal. While not extensive or filled with the most modern slides and attractions, such as a water coaster, funnel ride, or half-pipe slide, the medium-sized facility provides many water park essentials and could make for an enjoyable half-day adventure during a summer holiday.

Furthermore, the park’s notable claim is that it appears in two major motion pictures.

Slides and Other Rides

The most exhilarating attraction might be Devil’s Peak, comprising a pair of speed slides that propel riders forward as they face the drop. A secondary, smaller speed slide, Pirate’s Plunge, features a partial lights-out descent within a covered section of the tube.

The Hurricane Hill water slide tower boasts two less-daunting straight-down slides, along with three twisting slides that commence at an elevation exceeding 50 feet. Another structure, Squid Row (a clever title!), provides two additional twisting slides, one of which is open and another that is enclosed. The Canal tube slide offers a more relaxed experience.

For those averse to high thrills, the Herring Run River presents a relatively tranquil lazy river experience. This leisurely journey through the park incorporates a few surprising sprays and a section with gently undulating waves. The Muscle Beach wave pool serves as the primary venue for cooling off. Younger visitors will appreciate the uniquely designed activities, including Captain Kid’s Island, an interactive water play area featuring a tipping bucket. Harpoon Lagoon offers children the challenge of maintaining balance while crossing a series of floating “lily pads.”

What’s to Eat?

Water Wizz provides five quick-service dining locations. Among the culinary offerings are standard park fare, including hamburgers, chicken fingers, fries, and fried dough. More distinctive options comprise wraps, steak and cheese subs, and grilled cheese sandwiches. For desserts, the park features Captain Cones, which serves hand-scooped ice cream, root beer floats, and ice cream treats. At Salty Dawg’s, visitors can find cotton candy, popcorn, slush drinks, along with various sweet and savory snacks.

In contrast to many water parks, Water Wizz permits guests to bring their own food and beverages. (However, it is worth noting that glass containers are prohibited, and alcohol is also not allowed.) Another commendable aspect is that parking is free, distinguishing it from other establishments.

Operating Schedule, Admission Policy, and Directions

Weather permitting, Water Wizz operates roughly from early June until Labor Day. Consult its website to confirm hours.

The park offers discounts for children under 48 inches and seniors aged 65 and above. Additionally, it provides reduced prices for late afternoon entries. Children aged 2 and under enjoy free admission. Group rates and seasonal passes are available.

The precise location is 3031 Cranberry Highway in East Wareham, Massachusetts. The park is situated on Routes 6 and 28. From Hyannis (approximately a 40-minute drive) and other destinations on Cape Cod, take US-6W toward the Sagamore Bridge and Buzzards Bay. Continue to the Bourne Rotary, maintaining course on US-6W and MA-28. The park will be on the left. From Plymouth (roughly a 35-minute drive) and points north, take MA-3S to Exit 1A, then US-6W toward Buzzards Bay. Continue to the Bourne Rotary, and stay on US-6W and MA-28. The park will appear on the left.
