Top 5 Freezing Cold Destinations in Europe to Visit Now

Best Things To Do In Iceland (15)

Despite an unseasonably warm start, winter has finally arrived. While I appreciate sunshine, t-shirt weather, and cocktails by the beach, there is a certain appeal to embracing the chill that winter brings.

I firmly believe in maximizing the opportunities available to us, and as temperatures drop, my thoughts drift toward the extraordinary cold destinations I would love to explore at this moment.

N.B.: London does not typically experience significant cold. What we encounter often is rain—plenty of it! If a light snowfall occurs, the entire city ceases operations! 🙂

The threshold for what constitutes a ‘snow day’ here is considerably lower than in many other European locations, and we take pride in that fact. However, I digress…

Here are five frigid destinations I would love to visit right now.

1.) Iceland

I am enthusiastic about visiting any region in Iceland. It is one of the destinations where I could genuinely envision establishing a home, and my experiences in Iceland have only solidified that sentiment further.

2.) Lofoten, Norway

Another longstanding passion of mine, the Lofoten Islands are not only exquisite during this season but also an ideal location to witness the Northern Lights!

3.) Lapland (Sweden/Finland)

Whether in Swedish or Finnish Lapland, I would be exhilarated to visit either or perhaps both! I have never viewed Lapland solely as a destination for Christmas or winter excursions; however, I must acknowledge the distinct charm of being comfortably nestled in a warm cabin while watching the snow cascade outside.

4.) Svalbard, Norway

This destination has been on my radar for quite some time. Just look at the stunning landscapes and abundant snowfall!

5.) Greenland

Greenland can be viewed as Iceland’s more expansive (yet less populated) counterpart. While Iceland undoubtedly attracts more visitors, my experiences there have only intensified my intrigue regarding what Greenland has to offer.

Similar to Iceland, I am open to exploring any region of Greenland; my primary desire is to take in its grandeur!
