Top 4 Must-Visit Beaches in the UK

A few years ago, I shared my favorite walks (footpaths) in the UK; today, I bring you the counterpart to that post: UK beaches! If you’re dreaming of a beach getaway but do not want to splurge on flights abroad, or are simply craving a fun day out surrounded by sand and the atmosphere of the coast, a beach trip is perfect for everyone in the family. Moreover, if you’re taking children, there are plenty of great beach toys available to make the day even more memorable. The UK is home to some beautiful beaches that are often overlooked. Therefore, to inspire you, here are four of the best beaches in the UK:

#1. Kynance Cove, Cornwall

Located on the southern coast of Cornwall, Kynance Cove is one of the country’s most stunning beaches. Situated on the Lizard Peninsula, this beach features a round inlet, surrounded by serpentine rocks and lush grassy cliffs. The sand here is luxuriously white, and the water boasts a mesmerizing clear turquoise hue.

This beach is maintained by the National Trust, which ensures there is a sizable, staffed car park available. As a popular destination, it’s wise to arrive early during peak season to secure parking. If you’re a member of the National Trust, parking here is free.

#2. South Beach, Swanage

South Beach is located near Swanage on the south coast of England, about a 20-minute drive from Poole. This beach offers safe and shallow waters, making it perfect for those who want to paddle. Additionally, it provides excellent conditions for kayakers and paddleboarders. Here, you will also find a café open year-round, serving hot and cold snacks from 11am to 4pm.

Furthermore, this beach is a marine conservation zone, making it a prime location for observing eelgrass, seahorses, and pipefish. During the summer, look out for oystercatchers, while Brent geese and grebes grace the beach in winter.

#3. Blue Lagoon, Pembrokeshire

This unique Welsh beach is located in an abandoned slate quarry, filled with water since the early 20th century. The lagoon’s stunning tropical green hue is a result of the mineral properties of the slate.

The lagoon is a hotspot for tourists, with various coasteering companies offering exciting watersports tours. Due to its depth, swimming is recommended only for experienced swimmers, and only in fair weather. For the best experience, ensure you have a good pair of swimming goggles.

#4. Nanjizal Beach, Cornwall

Cornwall boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK, and Nanjizal Beach is a prime example. This beach features iconic scenery, including lagoon-like water and a key-hole-shaped opening in the surrounding rock face, which makes for captivating photographs. Located just a mile from Lands’ End, Nanjizal Beach is relatively remote. To access this hidden gem, it is best to park at Landsend or one of the nearby villages and walk over to the beach. Depending on where you park, allocate at least 40 minutes each way for the walk. Moreover, both the walk and the beach are suitable for most dogs, though older dogs may find the rocky path challenging. It’s important to note that there are no toilet facilities available, so plan accordingly!

If you’re a frequent beach-goer in the UK, consider investing in a holiday home in the south. This way, you can easily revisit your favorite beaches throughout the year. Caravans and lodges in holiday parks offer the perfect base for your coastal getaways.
