GoTravelDaily Travel Adventures

I am desperate for a vacation. I spend my lunch break searching for last-minute sun holidays and immersing myself in articles on dreamy beaches, cool city breaks, epic festival experiences, and places offering incredibly tasty things to eat.

I’m longing for summer, mainly because it has eluded me so far. I live in Ireland, where the weather has been unusually dreary, with endless gray skies and temperatures around a chilly 18°C/64°F daily. I need to feel the sun, so I’m considering a little trip in September. Maybe something exciting awaits? Recently, my teammates have been exploring colorful places in diverse climates, which has also got me inspired.

Let’s see what they’ve been up to in July—perhaps you’ll discover some inspiration here as well.

Southern Italy

Ru Ogata, Visual Designer

I explored Southern Italy with my husband Tosh, taking the train to three fantastic destinations that were quite different from one another. We began our journey in Naples, indulging in sweet and savory delights while soaking in the city’s energetic vibe. I found myself equally excited by the sweet pastries, like sfogliatelle, and world-famous pizza.

Next, we traveled by train to Parghelia in Calabria, which was a highlight of my trip. The accommodation, run by an incredible host named Gianni, offered private access to a stunning beach with complimentary sun loungers. The town itself was small yet intimate, boasting a variety of restaurant options, so we were never at a loss for delicious meals.

Finally, we ventured to the touristy seaside town of Tropea, where I relished some of the most scrumptious food on my journey, including delicious lobster linguine and a tantalizing gelato dessert called tartufo.

Tip: When visiting Parghelia, enjoy the sunrise with a spritz while relaxing in a hammock at the casual hilltop bar Pousada Café.

New Orleans, USA

Max Felderman, Sales & Marketing Manager

I had a fantastic long weekend in New Orleans, staying at one of the oldest family-owned hotels in the United States. My visit began with a swim in the rooftop pool and a famous Fleur de Lis cocktail before exploring the Garden District. There, I enjoyed shopping at various local stores and indulging in excellent coffee.

The next day, I hopped on a streetcar to Audubon Park and strolled along Magazine Street for more delightful thrift shopping. Lunch consisted of a delicious sandwich, and dinner featured amazing dishes tailored to my dietary restrictions.

Tip: Don’t hesitate to walk around the city! Staying hydrated makes the heat more manageable, and you will discover so much more in the process.

Newfoundland, Canada

Jessica Lockhart, Destination Editor

A recent conference in Newfoundland provided the perfect backdrop for a road trip across the island with my 72-year-old mom. We watched puffins in Elliston and experienced various unique local traditions. My favorite stop was Gros Morne National Park, where steep granite cliffs and serene, cascading waterfalls showcased Canada’s breathtaking beauty.

Tip: Newfoundland’s iceberg season typically runs from early June to July. For insight into where the icebergs are located, utilize the crowdsourced Iceberg Finder or Environment Canada’s Daily Iceberg Analysis Report.

British Virgin Islands, Caribbean

Chamidae Ford, Associate Writer

I just returned from five delightful days in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), where I indulged in island hopping between Tortola, Guana, Anegada, and Cooper Island. My ideal vacation comprises daily swimming, and I achieved that effortlessly while enjoying the warm Caribbean waters.

On Guana Island, I had the chance to swim on a deserted beach, which ranked as one of the most peaceful experiences of my life. I also visited a pineapple farm and enjoyed cocktails at sunset on Smugglers Cove beach.

Tip: While many people opt to rent a catamaran to sail through the BVI, ensuring you spend some time on the islands to experience locally-owned restaurants and shops is equally worthwhile.
