This amazing museum opened its doors in 2020 but marked its grand opening in July 2021 in conjunction with the 2021 Olympic Games. It is set to host a variety of weekly events leading up to Labor Day. These events include meet-and-greet opportunities with former Team USA athletes and the exciting Tokyo Games Fan Fest, where visitors can enjoy watching the Olympics on a massive 50-foot screen accompanied by live entertainment, food, and beverages.

The architectural design of the museum is remarkable, known for being one of the most accessible and interactive museums worldwide. Drawing inspiration from the Guggenheim Museum, its design includes elevators and ramps, eliminating the need for steps. While visiting, guests can customize their sport preferences and accessibility needs for a tailored tour experience. Inside, visitors will discover 12 galleries, each following a narrative journey through the teams’ experiences, employing technology that emphasizes accessibility and inclusion.

The permanent exhibition celebrates the dedication and achievements of Team USA athletes. It aims to highlight incredible athletes and significant moments in Olympic and Paralympic history, inspiring the next generation of athletes and fans. Among the highlights is a film entitled “To Take Part” and a frequently updated rotating gallery showcasing current events.

According to museum CEO Christopher Liedel, “The stories of our Olympians and Paralympians are the stories of this nation’s history. Every American can see themselves in the members of Team USA and will be inspired by their dedication, perseverance, and respect for the Olympic and Paralympic values. The museum has the unique privilege of telling these stories, and we are ready and excited to share them with the world.”

The Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 23 until August 8, followed by the Paralympics from August 24 through September 5 in Tokyo.
