James Bond’s Future Adventures: Untapped Locations

In spring 2020, Daniel Craig is set to hang up his Walther PPK holster for the last time following his fifth outing as 007. No Time to Die will see James Bond travel to the franchise’s spiritual home of Jamaica, where Ian Fleming penned the novels, and swap Caribbean sunsets for the moody fjords of Norway, a first for the series. Additionally, perennial Bond favourite Italy will shine once more with the Aston Martin set to ride again, this time further south in Matera.

James Bond’s Global Footprint

Over the course of more than 50 years, James Bond has traveled to over 40 countries, from Azerbaijan to North Korea, Afghanistan, and Bolivia. However, many destinations remain unexplored in future films—whichever character takes on the ‘Double 0’ code number next. Here are a few locations that are long overdue for a visit from this iconic globetrotter.

Harar, Ethiopia

Having visited only a handful of African countries, Bond needs to explore. The walled Old Town in Harar, Ethiopia, is a perfect candidate for an intense pre-title sequence. The city’s maze of cobbled streets provides an ideal backdrop for exciting chases, complemented by bustling markets and lively rooftops.

Moreover, the hyenas that roam the city at night add an intriguing element to the narrative. While they pose little threat to visitors, they could serve as a thrilling means to dispatch an enemy, making for a memorable scene.

Although Bond may struggle to find a martini in Harar, Ethiopia’s local drink—akari—could make for an interesting substitute to wrap up yet another day in the life of an agent.

High Tatras, Poland

The time is ripe for James Bond to explore the great outdoors of Poland as well. With the potential for thrilling ski chases in Zakopane, coupled with the picturesque slopes that boast the best pistes in the region, the High Tatras offer unique cinematic opportunities. Additionally, the enchanting salt mines of Wieliczka could serve as an intriguing lair for a potential villain.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

While James Bond has ventured near Iguazú Falls, he has never truly explored Buenos Aires, the City of Silver. This vibrant city exudes a sophistication reflective of the Bond franchise, making it the ideal backdrop for stylish cocktail scenes. The artsy district of San Telmo is perfect for Bond to indulge in delectable drinks, with enticing bars that feature exquisite vermouth and martinis as he entertains his latest femme fatale.

The Cabot Trail, Canada

No Bond film is complete without iconic car chases, and the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia offers perfect terrain for high-speed pursuits. The winding roads through lush forests and along cliff-hugging coastal paths create thrilling opportunities for action. Furthermore, should land escape fail, a dive into the Atlantic Ocean could provide a dramatic getaway; perfect for Bond’s ultimate escape.

Sydney, Australia

Given that George Lazenby once played Bond, it would be fitting for the iconic spy to explore Australia, with Sydney serving as an ideal location for a gripping finale. The city’s stunning harbour, combined with action-packed boat chases around the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, sets the stage for unmissable scenes. Furthermore, after thwarting villainous plots, a relaxing moment at Bondi Beach could conclude his thrilling adventure.

In conclusion, James Bond will undoubtedly return, ready for even more globetrotting adventures. With a wealth of untapped locations waiting to be explored, film fans have much to look forward to!
