Explore the Rugged Caribbean Coast
Your journey begins in Santa Marta, a beautiful city nestled in a picturesque bay adjacent to Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona. Start your day in Santa Marta with breakfast at Ikaro, located on a charming pedestrian-only street. Following breakfast, stroll through Parque de Los Novios and the Santa Marta malecón for breathtaking views over the harbor.
Catching a taxi to the Santa Marta market can help you stock up on fresh fruit and snacks. Buses to Tayrona depart from a small terminal behind the market every half hour, dropping you off at El Zaino, the park’s main entrance. It’s wise to leave early to ensure you have ample time for your hike.
Upon arrival at El Zaino, you must pay an admission fee to enter the park. From here, hike to the coastline and the first camping sites at Canaveral. Visitors can find ecohabs inspired by the ancient Tayrona civilization, boasting stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. The hike along the coastal trail to sites such as Arrecifes and Cabo San Juan is highly recommended, showcasing a number of camping options, from cabanas to tents for rental.

Set Out on One of Colombia’s Most Epic Loop Hikes
On your final adventure, embark on the spectacular loop hike through Valle de Cocora, home to towering Quindío wax palms, the tallest palm trees in the world. This five to six-hour adventure offers breathtaking scenery as you walk through lush, tropical mountain valley landscapes.
The hike begins with a relatively flat section through the valley, which transitions into a challenging climb through the cloud forest. Keep an eye out for various wildlife species along the way.
