One of the most compelling ways to explore Canada is by engaging with its natural landscapes. Following a brisk breakfast in Moncton, we set off for Hopewell Rocks—a landmark of great significance in New Brunswick.

Hopewell Rocks is renowned for its stunning geological formations, situated within the Bay of Fundy, which is famous for possessing the highest tidal variations globally.

The tidal shifts here are notable, exhibiting fluctuations of as much as 42 feet (13.5 meters) between low and high tides within a few hours.

Understanding the tidal schedule allows visitors to plan their visit effectively, determining the best times to witness the rocks in their full majesty during low tide or to partake in activities such as kayaking at high tide.

Exploring Hopewell Rocks

During high tide, kayaking becomes an excellent means to experience the wonders of Hopewell Rocks. We rented a two-person kayak from Baymount Adventures, located conveniently near the rocks. Navigating the kayak often leads to playful disagreements—an amusing challenge as each person believes their direction is correct.

In between light-hearted banter over direction, we managed to pause and appreciate the breathtaking views surrounding us.

The true magnificence of the rocks is revealed as the tide recedes, allowing one to observe their impressive height.

Local Exploration and Culinary Delights

After experiencing the tides, visitors can venture down to the newly exposed beach to wander among the rocks.

Post exploration, we returned to Hopewell Rocks for a brief rest before making our way back to Moncton for a brief tour of the city, which included an opportunity to sample local craft beers and admire the street art.

In the evening, we dined at Little Louis, selecting the chef’s tasting menu. This experience proved to be a delightful array of flavors, featuring locally sourced ingredients, including seafood and local flora.

Ultimately, as we prepared to depart for Newfoundland, we relished some of the regions’ finest ice cream—finishing our journey on a sweet note.
