Deadly Train Derailment in Taiwan

An eight-car passenger train carrying 498 people derailed in a tunnel in eastern Taiwan on Friday morning, killing at least 50 people and injuring dozens more, authorities said.

Moreover, the train came off the rails just north of Hualien, causing several carriages to collide with the tunnel wall, the government-run Central News Agency (CNA) reported, citing the fire department.

Authorities are investigating a crane truck that slid down an incline and fell into the path of the train.
