Summary of Our Journey
- Reflected on our time at Little Petra before heading to Petra.
- Engaged a local guide to assist us in finding a renowned viewpoint.
- Successfully navigated a treacherous but rewarding hike for breathtaking views.
- Concluded our exploration of Petra by discovering more hidden sites.
- Capped off the day by reflecting on the stunning sunset over Petra.
Departing from Little Petra, we proceeded to Petra where we paused for lunch. Our goal was to locate a viewpoint we had frequently admired in various photographs and videos prior to our arrival in Petra.
Despite the apparent accessibility of the viewpoint, we found ourselves uncertain of its exact location. Consequently, we decided to enlist the services of a local guide who possessed valuable insights to facilitate our journey.
Our guide was a knowledgeable teenager aware of the terrain and its intricacies.
He expertly navigated us through large boulders as we ascended the hill overlooking Petra.
Each step felt increasingly daunting, and upon reaching the vantage point, the stunning vista lay before us, heightening my fear of heights.
Photographs taken here were remarkable, yet upon reflection, we recognized the inherent risks involved in our precarious position.
Alternative viewpoints are available at lower elevations and are considerably safer to access.
It’s crucial to exercise caution, especially given the sheer drop present in this location. Notably, the vista from the base of Petra is equally, if not more, impressive.
After our journey at the viewpoint, we retraced our steps back towards the canyon entrance; however, instead of descending straight down, we took the opportunity to explore additional regions of Petra that may have otherwise been overlooked.
Another challenging segment awaited as we traversed to the opposite side of our previous location, yet everything that followed was comparatively straightforward.
While still ascending in the mountains, this segment posed no significant threats, particularly in terms of height anxiety.
The scenery, particularly from this altitude, was breathtaking, offering a newfound admiration for Petra and its surroundings.
Eventually, we decided to rest, allowing ourselves a moment to relish the sun setting slowly while enjoying tea from a modest shack we discovered at the summit.
It is important to note that our comfort in consuming these beverages stemmed from their hot temperature, calming any reservations we may have had regarding water safety.
Subsequently, we embarked on the most manageable portion of the hike, descending back toward our starting point.
While many may dislike downhill hiking, it has become one of my preferred activities.
I find that while uphill hiking can challenge my pace, descending is where I excel.
This day turned out to be more active than initially anticipated, yet rewarding, as we uncovered various aspects of this ancient, lost kingdom.
Eventually, we arrived back at the entrance, traversing the magnificent canyon, where we located a bar to celebrate the wonders of Petra.
We look forward to sharing our experiences in Wadi Rum in our next post.
This destination is universally recognized, frequently featured in numerous Hollywood films.
More insights on that will be shared in the upcoming post. 😁😁
