Qatar might be better known for its futuristic skyscrapers and natural-gas riches, yet this tiny Arabian Peninsula nation, surrounded by the warm turquoise waters of the Gulf, offers an array of beaches perfect for a refreshing dip. From family-friendly sands to kitesurfing hot spots, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The ideal time to visit the beaches in Qatar spans from March to May and September to November when temperatures are moderate. Generally, men and women should wear T-shirts and board shorts at public beaches, while private beaches allow bikinis and swimwear briefs.

Katara Beach – The Family-Friendly Choice

For those looking to swim in the ocean without leaving the capital of Doha, Katara Beach is the perfect option. This 1.5km sandy stretch is adjacent to Katara Cultural Village and features lounge chairs, shaded areas for kids, motorized and non-motorized watersports, and a large playground. Restaurants and food vans are conveniently located nearby, making lunch easy to acquire.

Katara Beach has an entrance fee of QR50 for adults and QR25 for children aged 7 to 17, making it a budget-friendly option compared to private beaches. Note that single men cannot enter the family section; the men’s section is located at the southern end of the beach.

Fuwairit Beach – A Kitesurfing Haven

The stunning white sands of Fuwairit Beach, located about an hour’s drive north of Doha, provide perfect conditions for kitesurfing amid shallow, crystal-clear waters.
