Explore Oslo: Your Ultimate Guide for a Quick Stopover in Norway

A Quick Stopover In Oslo, Norway

It has been quite some time since our last visit to Oslo! This duration prompted me to ponder whether the city had transformed much since our previous trip (I am certainly aware of the changes in London during that interval) and if I would be able to navigate my way around the city as confidently as before.

For Georgia and Chris, this was their inaugural visit, and as we arranged our travel to Tromso, we decided to include a brief stopover in the capital of Norway.

Transportation from the airport was remarkably straightforward (accessible via train or taxi), and soon we arrived in Oslo on a rather overcast day, which was quite different from our first visit.

Nonetheless, we promptly began reacquainting ourselves with the city, eager to share it with first-time visitors, Georgia and Chris.

The train station is adjacent to the Opera House, allowing us to begin our journey there and admire the views from outside…

Upon deciding to seek refuge from the chilly air, we ventured indoors. (By the way, if you’re carrying luggage, you can utilize the storage lockers available at the station – they are quite spacious).

Departing the opera house, we set out in search of a light meal…

After relishing our food, we shifted our focus towards the Royal Palace, absorbing even more of what the city had to offer as we strolled.

While on our way to the Palace, we soon realized that we were running short on time to return to the airport for our connecting flight, prompting us to quicken our pace as we navigated through the city.

With our visit to the Palace marked off our itinerary (unfortunately, access was restricted during this trip, as I believe visits are generally permitted only in summer), we retraced our steps back to the train station, only to be met with train cancellations.

Regrettably, the specifics of the cancellations elude me; however, I recollect running around searching for taxis, only to face a lengthy queue before ultimately securing an Uber (which included surge pricing) back to the airport. I recall little of the return journey – I was so fatigued that I fell asleep the entire route.

Fortunately, we arrived at the airport well in advance of our flight, with a commitment to allocate more time for a thorough exploration of Oslo next time! Our next destination was Tromso.
