Moreover, the diversity of Tennessee was a key factor in choosing a road trip as our mode of exploration. Situated comfortably among Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville, we explored local regions and developed a fondness for Tennessee.

1.) Memphis

Located on Tennessee’s southern border, Memphis is an essential historical destination. One could easily spend four days here, with it being a mere few hours drive from Nashville.

During your visit, be sure to dine at the Beauty Shop Restaurant, which is a nostalgic dining experience set in the former beauty parlor frequented by Priscilla Presley.

2.) Nashville

Nashville was our first destination in Tennessee, and it quickly became a favorite. This vibrant city offers an exciting atmosphere and ranks amongst the top experiences in Tennessee for those seeking a lively urban getaway.

Be sure to explore the historic Ryman Auditorium, find the magnificent replica of the Parthenon, and unwind in the downtown district, which is abundant with indie bars and live music venues featuring exceptional musicians.

3.) Knoxville

While often eclipsed by its larger counterparts, Memphis and Nashville, a visit to Knoxville is certainly worthwhile if you’re seeking a relaxed atmosphere with easy access to nature.

As the largest city adjacent to the Great Smokey Mountains, Knoxville features numerous inviting locales for exploration.

4.) Lynchburg

Located south of Nashville and west of Chattanooga, Lynchburg makes a delightful stop on your journey between either city. Many may recognize Lynchburg for one particular reason.

It is home to the renowned Jack Daniels Distillery, which is easily accessible for a brief visit. We devoted half a day to exploring Lynchburg and participated in a distillery tour.

Even for those uninterested in bourbon, this is among the must-do activities in Tennessee, as it encompasses a vital aspect of the area’s history. Additionally, the chance to learn about its fascinating origins makes it worth the visit.

5.) Graceland

Although I mentioned Memphis earlier, Graceland warrants its own spotlight. It appeals not just to Elvis admirers but also serves as one of the top attractions in Tennessee, offering insights into the musical heritage of the region.

Once the residence of ‘the King,’ Graceland is now open for tours, including access to his private aircraft, a stroll through his living room, and an opportunity to delve into his remarkable musical legacy.

6.) Great Smokey Mountains
