3. Recommendations for dining in Vik.

This day in Iceland involved a lengthy yet rewarding drive, allowing us to visit some of the most stunning waterfalls the country has to offer.

Our accommodation was at the Greenhouse Hotel in Sellfoss, and our destination was Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon.

The journey duration is approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes, which excludes any breaks for meals, as there are limited dining options nearby.

Along the route, we encountered some of Iceland’s most picturesque waterfalls, prompting us to consider extending our travel time to accommodate multiple stops.

With renewed excitement, we set off on our adventure!

Our first destination was Seljalandsfoss, a unique waterfall that one can actually walk behind, making it a contender for one of the finest waterfalls in Iceland, if not all of Europe.

During our initial visit over a decade ago, the parking facilities were rudimentary; however, the site has since become significantly more organized.

Notably, restroom facilities have also been added.

Upon parking, we made our way to the waterfall, only to realize we had forgotten to bring raincoats.

Despite the dry weather, the wind was sufficient to leave us damp even before reaching Seljalandsfoss.

We realized we had raincoats in the vehicle but chose not to retrieve them, a decision we regretted.

If we felt damp from the initial encounter with Seljalandsfoss, our experience behind the waterfall left us completely saturated.

At this point, drenched as we were, we decided to venture down the path towards the base of the waterfall.

Approaching the waterfall imparted an overwhelming feeling of power that one does not fully appreciate from a distance.

Thoroughly drenched, we re-emerged from behind the waterfall to explore another nearby waterfall, Gljufrabui, which we had overlooked in our previous visits to Iceland.

Gljufrabui is somewhat concealed from view but is certainly one of the best waterfalls in Iceland that is easily accessible.

Essentially, if one gazes directly at Seljalandsfoss, Gljufrabui is located to the left, a short three-minute walk away.

Exploring this beautiful hidden gem feels akin to unearthing an extraordinary secret in Iceland.

After capturing all these memories, we proceeded to Skogafoss, our next waterfall on the itinerary.

Skogafoss is yet another spectacular waterfall iconic to the Icelandic landscape.

But first, we took a necessary pause for lunch, allowing us to absorb our surroundings.

Previously, our visits for lunch were delightful experiences, featuring exceptional service and delectable meals, including a memorable lamb shank.

However, today’s lamb shank did not live up to expectations, and service was notably lacking.

It took considerable effort just to place our orders as the staff appeared disinterested.

Once we finished lunch and dried off somewhat, we made our way to Skogafoss, promptly getting wet again.

The magnificent sight of Skogafoss compelled us to venture closer than on previous occasions.

Although damp from our earlier escapades, we were captivated by the beauty of the waterfall.

Upon completing our visit here, we began our journey to our hotel, stopping at Vik, the last substantial town where we could find dining options for the evening.

In Vik, we discovered Smiðjan Brugghús, a microbrewery renowned for its burgers and BBQ pork ribs.

The ambiance was delightful, complemented by fantastic food, making it a highly recommended stop.

After dinner, we took some time to explore Vik, which was enveloped in fog before continuing our journey.

We likely arrived at The FossHotel Glacier Lagoon close to midnight, albeit with dinner already consumed.
