Summary
A Day In Squamish – One Of The Best Views In British Columbia, Canada
For the first time since our arrival in Vancouver, we resolved to indulge in the culinary scene beyond the hotel breakfast at the Shangri La and explore the city for brunch.
Delicious Breakfast Experience
Everyone had been raving about a local establishment known as the Jam Café. Although the name alone did not suggest anything extraordinary, the queue outside revealed the reputation it has built.
Although I am typically not an advocate of waiting in line, my desire for an exquisite meal persuaded me to stand and patiently await my turn, growing increasingly eager with anticipation.
Fortunately, our wait was brief, and I was soon presented with an indulgent breakfast of chicken and waffles alongside Lloyd’s mountain-sized French toast. The flavor was extraordinary, and with the first bite, I quickly understood the acclaim surrounding this café.
Exploring Squamish
After breakfast, we hurriedly retrieved our car from the valet and set off toward Squamish. Located just an hour from downtown Vancouver, Squamish is notable not only for its breathtaking landscapes but also as a historic site for the Squamish people, one of Canada’s first nations.
Squamish is also home to the Sea to Sky Gondola, which provides stunning vistas of the surrounding terrain. While hiking is an option, given that our schedule was tight, I opted for the gondola as a more accessible means to take in the views.
The Sea to Sky Gondola Experience
Upon reaching the gondola, we were greeted by breathtaking views that were well worth the trip. The connector spans a stunning fjord-like landscape, allowing visitors to take in panoramic views from numerous platforms.
Guided Tour with a First Nations Expert
At the summit, we met with our guide Karen, a member of the First Nations. She offered invaluable insights into the history, culture, and traditions of her people, leading us to some of the most remarkable viewpoints along the trail.
Experiencing the rich cultural context while absorbing the incredible scenery proved enlightening and deeply enriching.
Visit to Shannon Falls
After our tour, we journeyed back, and along the way, we discovered Shannon Falls, the third-largest waterfall in British Columbia. It is a stunning sight that is well worth a visit.
This delightful detour added a refreshing end to our day in the Squamish area, and its proximity to Vancouver means it is easily accessible during any visit to the region.
Conclusion
Reflecting on our adventures, I recall not only the scenic beauty and cultural richness but also the exceptional gastronomy we encountered. Experiences like these truly highlight the culinary diversity and extraordinary landscapes that Canada has to offer.
