With this in mind, I wish to elucidate some of the premier activities to pursue in Colorado. Regardless of the season, it remains an exceptional state to visit. Enjoy your adventure!
1.) Rocky Mountain National Park
Located northwest of the capital, Denver, Rocky Mountain National Park is undoubtedly one of the top destinations in Colorado for those wishing to escape urban life.
The park features breathtaking drives such as the renowned Trail Ridge Road. Additionally, there is a plethora of hiking trails that allow for a closer inspection of this magnificent landscape on foot.
For example, the Emerald Lake Trail is notably scenic, and a visit to Bear Lake along with the Bear Lake Trailhead is essential!
2.) Black Canyon
Located in western Colorado, Black Canyon (part of Gunnison National Park) is home to diverse wildlife including elk, golden eagles, and deer, alongside its iconic canyon.
Its steep cliffs and dramatic drop-offs present a stunning vista, highlighted by the striated Painted Wall, the highest cliff in Colorado. Often overlooked, this national park is certainly worth visiting.
While at the park, ensure that you not only explore the Southern Rim but also venture to the Northern Rim. Although there are several hiking trails available, it is also a picturesque drive along the Southern Rim.
Here, you’ll encounter breathtaking overlooks such as Pulpit Rock, the incredible Painted Wall View, and Gunnison Point Oblique (just to name a few). This spot is genuinely splendid.
3.) Denver
If a city break appeals to you, visiting Denver is among the most exciting activities to undertake while in Colorado. This city, being the largest in the state, offers an array of engaging and historically rich sites, making it ideal for a weekend getaway.
During your visit, do not miss the opportunity to see the State Capitol, stroll through the Botanic Gardens, and engage with art at the Denver Art Museum.
