Discover the World of Wine in Porto

A new cultural and tourist hub has opened in Porto to bring people together to celebrate the city’s many charms, including its exceptional food and wine. Called the World of Wine (WOW), this visitor attraction has taken five years to develop and is finally ready to welcome guests.

Porto’s Rich Heritage and Attractions

With its Unesco World Heritage Site center, vibrant streets, riverside bars, Art Nouveau architecture, and centuries-old trade in port wine, every corner of Porto tells a different story. The World of Wine (WOW), also known as Porto’s Wine District, opened in August after five years of meticulous planning. This unique attraction comprises six interactive museums, nine restaurants, bars, and cafes—crafted from the restoration of the old port wine cellars.

A Unique Experience Awaits

Centrally located along the south bank of the Duoro River, WOW offers breathtaking open-air views of Porto’s iconic Dom Luís I Bridge. This large-scale tourism project showcases the city’s wine, cork, fashion, textile, and chocolate traditions. With interactive exhibits, historical artifacts, and experiences that feel straight out of a movie, WOW caters to visitors of all ages, including families with children.

Wine Tasting and More

Porto is synonymous with port wine; however, the Wine Experience museum at WOW explores the diverse styles of Portuguese wine. Guests can learn about red, white, sparkling, and even green wine (famous for its fizz). Wine tastings are available for adults, providing an opportunity to enjoy and enhance their knowledge of Portuguese wines.

Explore Porto’s Industries

Additional museums in WOW narrate the story of Porto from its early days through to the present, while also highlighting Portugal’s major industries such as chocolate (with tastings available) and cork. A sixth museum is scheduled to open in November, showcasing remarkable work from the country’s top fashion, textile, and jewelry designers, as well as offering space for emerging local talents. The cherry on top is the open-air area where families and friends can gather safely to enjoy food and drinks while appreciating the stunning views of Porto.
