Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort: A Unique Wellness Retreat in British Columbia
Near the south of British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest lies Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort, a family-owned escape surrounded by natural beauty. Located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and accessible only by air or water, guests can unwind in private cabins, reconnect with nature, and participate in wellness activities such as yoga. One of the latest highlights includes the opportunity to soak in a wood-burning sauna that floats on the open water.
Reflecting on childhood memories near water, Nimmo owner Fraser Murray sought to create a unique wellness experience by adding this sauna. The journey to the custom-built Finnish-style cedar sauna is an adventure, as visitors must take a boat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard to reach it. Inside, guests can listen to the soothing sounds of the crackling wood-burning stove while enjoying panoramic views of the bay through large picture windows. To refresh between sauna sessions, guests can take a dip in the ocean or catch some fresh air on the dock.
“Visiting the sauna dock is often integrated into a wellness-themed day. Guests have the chance to picnic on the dock, enjoy a bonfire, or participate in guided outdoor yoga classes. Our visitors appreciate the truly magical experience of being immersed in the wilderness while focusing on their wellbeing,” said Beth Mosby of Nimmo Bay.
The resort operates from May through October, featuring nine cabins that accommodate up to 18 guests, with a strong emphasis on wellness and sustainable tourism. Customized activities include rainforest hiking, kayaking, saltwater fishing, picnic lunches, site tours, paddle boarding, and morning yoga sessions. Guests can also embark on helicopter tours to explore 50,000 square miles of pristine wilderness, with breathtaking views of glaciers, lakes, and waterfalls.
Furthermore, the resort is committed to environmental sustainability. It employs water-powered electricity systems, solar energy, and various initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The menu showcases local ingredients, with fresh seafood, foraged plants, and organic vegetables sourced from British Columbia farms. The seasonal menu reflects local produce cycles, and guests can even partake in foraging experiences along the coast with food and drink experts.
Rates at Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort start from $1495 per person per day. For further details, visit the official Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort website.
