Summary
The following day, I resolved to rise somewhat earlier, particularly since we needed to depart by mid-afternoon to board our flight back to London. My objective was to maximize the morning hours.
As it was the final day of our excursion to Hamburg attending the Christmas market, I aimed to indulge in as much gluhwein and candied nuts as feasible (both for myself and my luggage).
Once breakfast was concluded, we ventured to Alster Lake for a different perspective of the city.
…before returning to the urban area.
…while passing by Rathaus, indulging my obsession with the Christmas markets.
We then visited St. Peter’s Church, which surprisingly has a modest interior.
…before we commenced our leisurely stroll towards Speicherstadt – the UNESCO World Heritage ‘city of warehouses’ in Hamburg. To be fully candid, the prospect of visiting a warehouse, regardless of its world heritage status, did not initially elate me. However, it was only as we approached that I gradually began to appreciate its grandness and magnitude.
Unfortunately, at this juncture, we realized we had exhausted our time for city exploration and promptly needed to return to the hotel to collect our belongings and proceed to the airport. Coinciding with our departure, the skies opened up, dramatically expressing their farewell with a downpour.
As we hurried back to the hotel, collected our belongings, and made our way home, a familiar sentiment washed over me—feeling that I had not sufficiently explored Hamburg and certainly must return to this remarkable city.
Auf wiedersehen for now Hamburg… 🙂
