1.) San Antonio
San Antonio, our second stop during our Texas journey, is truly delightful. It is an excellent destination for a long weekend getaway.
Start your visit at the Alamo, an essential landmark you cannot overlook. This site is historically significant as the location of the Battle of Alamo in 1836, making it one of Texas’s most symbolic locations related to its independence. Situated in the heart of San Antonio, the Alamo offers an enriching exploration, featuring its chapel and long barracks.
Afterward, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the San Antonio River Walk, which we frequented each evening. The riverbanks are adorned with picturesque areas, lined with various restaurants, bars, and delightful al fresco dining options.
If you prefer not to walk, consider taking a boat ride along the river. It’s a relaxing way to wind down after enjoying a great meal.
For those interested in museums, visit the Witte Museum or the Museum of Art, both of which are astounding and showcase a vast array of artifacts and artwork you won’t want to miss.
2.) Big Bend National Park
Big Bend National Park is arguably one of the premier destinations in Texas for outdoor enthusiasts. Located along the western border of the state, this park offers countless sights and activities, perfect for a multi-day adventure.
Consider hiking the scenic South Rim trail. This trail is roughly 12 miles in length and presents a challenge worth embracing. However, it’s essential to ensure preparedness before setting out. Check in at the Chisos Visitor Center for updates on local conditions and any necessary precautions.

The Capitol offers the opportunity for a self-guided tour of the grounds or a guided tour of the building, typically conducted every 30-45 minutes.
Additionally, venture to the Bullock Texas State History Museum, which features numerous exhibition halls that showcase the evolving narrative of Texas. It’s a captivating place that can occupy you for days!
If you desire a break from urban life, visit nearby McKinney Falls State Park, where the trails around Onion Creek are serene and relaxing.
Conclude your visit with a trip to the Hamilton Pool Preserve, noted for its stunning beauty. Keep in mind that swimming may be subject to cancellation due to bacteria levels and rain. Always verify conditions before heading out!
4.) Amarillo

If you’re seeking delightful dining options along with craft beers, Muck & Fuss is a legendary establishment known for its burgers and seasonal brews. Alternatively, visit the laid-back Huisache Grill for an exceptional blackened catfish dish.
Additionally, just outside of New Braunfels, the Natural Bridge Caverns are among the largest and most remarkable caverns in Texas, offering guided tours ideal for a fascinating day out. Prepare for the humidity before entering!

Initially, Houston was intended to be a brief stopover during our Texas trip. However, upon arrival, we were delighted to extend our stay.

Once you settle into your accommodation, head to the Museum of Natural Science. We thoroughly enjoyed the blend of museums, parks, and unique food locations that Houston has to offer!
For an unforgettable brunch experience, the Breakfast Klub is highly recommended for its outstanding waffles. You won’t be disappointed!
Additionally, consider a day trip to Space Center Houston, an exceptional opportunity to gain insights into space exploration, significant missions, and, of course, projects led by NASA. It’s an exhilarating experience for those passionate about space!
