Discover Beilstein: A Charming German Town and the Stunning Eltz Castle

The Stunning Town of Beilstein and the Magnificent Eltz Castle in Germany

The following day in the Moselle Valley was one that, in hindsight, could have benefited from some adjustments.

This segment of Germany is exceptionally picturesque, which led to my overzealous planning for the day’s itinerary.

While my enthusiasm might have been excessive, we successfully managed to experience everything I had envisioned for the day!

Breakfast at Weingut Gehlen Cornelius

We initiated our day with an early breakfast at Weingut Gehlen Cornelius before setting off for the Geierlay suspension bridge.

Visit to Geierlay Suspension Bridge

Having seen images of this bridge shrouded in fog, I was eager to finally experience it firsthand. Although it wasn’t foggy upon our visit, the opportunity to explore a place I had dreamed of was exhilarating.

There is no parking available adjacent to the bridge, necessitating a short walk. Contrary to the map’s suggestion of over 30 minutes, the actual walk only takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Exploring the Town of Beilstein

After visiting the bridge, we proceeded to Beilstein, a quaint town I had chosen as our lunch destination.

I had initially planned to have lunch before wandering through the town, but once we arrived in Beilstein, we quickly became engrossed in exploring its delightful alleyways and charming boutiques, causing a quick hour to pass by unnoticed.

Lunch in Beilstein

We had actually intended to lunch before our explorations commenced, but the vibrant atmosphere of Beilstein enticed us to linger longer.

Instead, we soon found ourselves redirecting to another restaurant overlooking the river for our meal as the time for lunch had elapsed.

Visit to Cochem and Eltz Castle

Post-lunch, we ventured towards a magnificent castle I had anticipated visiting for a considerable time.

However, just as I experienced during our exploration in the Rhine Valley, the enchanting surroundings continually beckoned for attention; one such distraction was Cochem, a colorful town boasting a stunning castle overseeing it.

If you intend to visit either Cochem or Burg Eltz, be sure to see the other as they are a mere 30-minute drive apart, making them a perfect combination for a day trip.

Upon reaching Burg Eltz, you can drive to a nearby parking area and from there either walk to the castle or take a shuttle bus.

The stroll to the castle, through a lush forest, is both enjoyable and manageable, making it easy to choose walking down and returning by bus after our visit.

Walking through the forest and encountering a breathtaking view of the castle standing majestically in the clearing is a truly remarkable experience. The exhilaration was overwhelmingly heightened as we approached it.

Experiencing the castle in person surpassed all my expectations—its grandeur is astonishing!

Inside, guests can discover the history of the family associated with the castle, gaining insights into its use over the years. Despite not being permitted to take photos indoors, the experience is well worth it.

As our day concluded, we traversed the castle’s various rooms, absorbing as much knowledge as possible until it was time to board the shuttle bus and return to our vehicle.

While our exploration was drawing to a close, I couldn’t resist the urge to capture an iconic view of the castle yet again.

In all, the Moselle Valley is replete with stunning sites, and this experience certainly ranks among the top! 😀
