The subsequent phase of our road trip concentrated on the Moselle Valley of Germany. Given the splendor of the Rhine Valley, this segment of our journey was eagerly anticipated.
Departing from Assmannshausen, we proceeded to The Moselle Loop Viewpoint.
To set the context, the Moselle Loop constitutes a hairpin turn in the Moselle River and is remarkably picturesque within this valley.
A parking facility is conveniently located near the viewpoint, making it easy to leave your vehicle and embark on the short yet scenic walk to the viewpoint.
However, the viewpoint positioned on the edge of a steep hill offers limited visibility into the valley, restricting a full appreciation of the Moselle Loop.
Despite the allure of enhanced views, venturing further risks tumbling down the steep bank. Thus, it seemed prudent to forgo the viewpoint, especially considering an organic vineyard, Weingut Laurentiushof, nearby which we intended to explore.
Interestingly, to access the vineyards, you must drive for approximately 10 minutes until you encounter a road leading you directly into the vineyard area.
This road can be somewhat intimidating as it accommodates one vehicle at a time. Nevertheless, after a brief drive, you are rewarded with unobstructed views of the Moselle Loop, the valley, and the quaint village below.
For those wary of navigating the roads, consider parking your vehicle and walking over instead. Enjoying the sunshine, it transforms into a delightful stroll through the woods, proving to be both pleasant and accessible.
Once we had fully appreciated the view, it was time to have lunch, and we headed toward Bernkastel Kues, a town renowned for its beauty situated within the Moselle Valley.
By the time we arrived in Bernkastel Kues, both of us were feeling quite hungry, compelling us to select the first restaurant we encountered. Regrettably, the meal turned out to be moderately satisfactory, yet my ravenous appetite led me to perceive it as delectable.
After satisfying our appetites, we embarked on a thorough exploration of Bernkastel Kues.
Bernkastel Kues exudes charm reminiscent of a German fairytale. Its exquisite appearance is simply captivating!
The vibrant timber-framed houses captivated us for hours as we meandered through the delightful town. Interestingly, Bernkastel Kues is recognized as a state-approved health resort—what that precisely entails remains somewhat ambiguous, yet it certainly sounds appealing. 😀
Allow me to guide you through…
Arriving at the hotel signified the cessation of our driving endeavors, prompting us to indulge in the vineyard’s own wines, perfectly complemented by the delightful views of the vineyard landscape.
The tranquil surroundings were delightful; the only sounds come from the gentle rustling of leaves and the sporadic bird calls, creating a serene atmosphere.
This experience proved to be the perfect culmination of a delightful day!
